A summer cottage

In light all yellowed by rain,

Magic beasts

On roofs,

Whose hooves

Hound shingle and rafter,

And after,

Roller skate down drainpipes

To p"'p"'pat the mud"'d"'d.

Inside,

A book

Gives off the parched pungency

Of paper.

Outside,

The damp, living odor

Of trees.
