Reading with Aaron

Dina Montgomery
Aaron always loved going to school, he loved playing with his friends, and seeing his very nice teacher every day. He especially loved to read. He has a bunch of books at home that he reads after he takes his bath at night. Of course, after he defeats the monsters on his video games first. Aaron loves his room and how his dad put up all those bookshelves for him. He put those shelves in and now he can put his books up on them nicely so he can read the binders instead of pulling every one of them out to read the title. Aaron has always been sort of different than most little boys with their rooms. He likes things to be tidy, and neat. Not all the time, but most of the times he does.

For a school project that Aaron's teacher had assigned to his class was to read a book of his choice for at least 20 minutes a day, longer if they wanted too. Aaron usually did read longer than 20 minutes, because he always wanted to know how the story ended before he would go to bed. He didn't want to wait till the next day to find out what happened he wanted to know right away. When he was done reading that book, then he could color in a pumpkin on a sheet of paper that the teacher handed out to them on the start of the project. The project was if you colored in all the pumpkins which represented the days of the month, you would get a prize out of the class treasure chest. Every time he would finish reading, he would run to mommy or daddy and wave the paper excitedly saying he was finished, he could color in a pumpkin. Mommy and daddy are so proud of Aaron for wanting to read like he does, it's is a really good thing he likes it, because he would be doing it for the rest of his life.

Aaron was so excited because he knew mommy liked to read and he wanted to read like mommy. Sometimes Aaron and mommy would sit together and read. Aaron just loved it when mommy would let him read to her from his books. Every time that he would do that, he would look up at her and she would always have a huge grin on her face. Sometimes mommy's eyes would be all wet. Aaron asked what was wrong, was he reading bad? But mommy would kiss him on his head and tell him that he was reading very well and that made mommy happy with happy tears. Aaron would say that it made him happy too.

When all his pumpkins were colored in, he took his paper to his teacher and he got his prize out of the treasure chest. The thing that really made it fun was he got a prize for doing something that he loved doing anyway.

That is a wonderful story! I love the coloring in of the pumpkins. What a cool idea. My son loves to read, too. You have a talent for writing creative and interesting stories. I could just see Aaron running, waving his pumpkin paper. Great job!
