Reading Too Much

A Poem

Etienne J. Sarfelli

We shared coffee and sweet conversation

You kissed me as we stood beneath the stars

and held my hand as we walked through the orchard

we made love in the fields of forever

and laughed long into the night

And then you were gone

No call, no letter, no goodbye

I guess I imagined that the feelings shared were real

That this was love and we were meant to be together

I suppose I was reading too much

into the things that weren't anything after all

reading into the things that only mattered to me
