Real Detroit Celebrates 11th Birthday with Rocking Show Featuring Critical Bill and ICP

Last night Real Detroit magazine took over the Majestic Theatre complex in downtown Detroit for their Birthday Break celebration.

The magazine is celebrating eleven years of chronicling everything that makes Detroit the entertainment destination that it is.

To celebrate their 11th birthday, Real Detroit decided to put on a bash featuring performances by some of the areas best bands, hair and fashion shows and a rock n' roll photography exhibit featuring 15 local artists.

The show was spread out in the four venues located within the Majestic Theatre complex. The Majestic Cafe played host to performances by DJ Joshua Adams and Catfish Mafia. The Garden Bowling alley was the location for perfomances by Black Irish, Gorvette, Silver Ghosts and Satin Peaches. The Magic Stick had perfomances by Luder, The Muggs, Hell Driver and Sponge and the Theatre was the site of performances by Nate Kane, MU, Critical Bill and event headliners Insane Clown Posse (ICP).

Detroit metal/rap/rock outfit Critical Bill have been bringing their eclectic music to the area since 2002. Over the years they have toured with a number of national acts including Buckcherry, Uncle Kracker, Puddle of Mudd, DMX and Tech N9ne. On March 13 the band is releasing their latest album Underground Kingdom, which is said to be heavier on the rock side of the musical spectrum.

Critical Bill is known for their high energy live performances and Saturday night was no exception. The band took to the stage and got the packed Majestic crowd full of Juggalos there to see ICP hyped and ready to go.

The band pulled out a number of fan favorites including their theme song "This Is Critical", "The Ride" and "The Shouting" as well as a few new songs off of Underground Kingdom including "Beam Me Up" and "American Psycho".

Critical Bill ended the evening with their popular cover of House of Pain's "Jump Around".

After the band exited the stage, it took ICP over a hour to take the stage and the fashion show that took place in between did nothing to soothe the frustration building in the crowd who were anxious to see their favorite band.

ICP is a underground hip/hop duo who broke onto the Detroit music scene in the early 90's. Their style of horrorcore rap turned off much of the mainstream music industry but with persistance the duo managed to build a hardcore following among what they call "Juggalos".

The band is known for it's elaborate live performances featuring music wound around the mythology of the "Dark Carnival", a series of stories known as the Joker's Cards which feature lessons designed to change the evil ways of the world.

Over the years, ICP has managed to become internationally known and over the last year they have had great success with the release of their eleventh studio album Bang! Pow! Boom! and feature film, Big Money Rustlas, a hilarious western which is the prequel to their first gangster feature film Big Money Hustlas from 2000.

By the time ICP took the stage last night, the Majestic Theatre was packed from front to back with Juggalos and also a number of people who had never seen the band before. It was entertaining watching them get their first taste of what the band has to offer.

Fully decked out in their clown makeup, ICP's Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope brought their Gathering of the Juggalos stage setup featuring the band's name in big bright lights along with the spinning DJ Clay, lots of clowns and monsters and, of course, the band's signature Faygo to pelt the crowd.

The set featured material that dated back to the band's first albums all the way up to Bang! Pow! Boom!. Set highlights included Murder Go Round, Dead Body Man, Down With The Clown, Zombie Slide and I Fouind A Body.

ICP closed out their set with crowd favorites Homies and Pass Me By after bringing a number of fans up on stage for a massive Faygo shower.

Real Detroit definitely knows how to party!
