Real Ghost Stories: Scary Encounters of the Supernatural

Part 4: Upon My Return

Matthew Shively
As exciting as the visit was with my family, I can honestly say I was excited to be headed back home where I could relax. Little did I know what I was about to walk into upon my return. Even though I have experienced paranormal activity many times, not once did it cross my mind that it was possible for them to follow.

Excited to finally be back home after a long six hour drive, I was ready to take a shower and relax knowing I had to work the next day. However, relaxing was the last thing that happened after my heart was jerked from my chest from fright as I walked in the door that evening. I saw him, my little friend that follows, on the stairs staring right at me and then he was gone. Almost like he was excited I was home.

That was the night that my house became once again very active. As I was explaining my paranormal encounter with my wife in the kitchen something all of a sudden went right through me. I felt the spirit enter and exit my body. At first I thought it was just my imagination and fatigue, but I could feel the cold breath of air exit my mouth when I exhaled. The hair on my arms stood straight up and my body just froze for a short period of time. I could not deny what had just happened. My wife asked me if I was all right, but I was in such a shock that I couldn't speak. I must say though, that was the most extraordinary experience I have ever had. However, this was just the beginning of what was to come.

It seemed as though the house came alive. The sound of children once again running up and down my stairs and nothing there upon further investigation. This, however, was only the beginning. A few nights later as I was lying in bed I could not help but hear an old radio playing what sounded like old jazz music from the 1920s. When I say an old radio I am talking about the old radios you see in the movies that have one speaker, made of real wood, and have that hollow sound.

So with curiosity I went to the edge of my stairs to further listen to what I was hearing upstairs in my house lying in bed. There was definitely music playing, I could hear it, but there were also two men talking. The location of the voices seemed to be coming from my laundry room area down stairs near the kitchen. Realizing I was out of bed my wife awoke and also asked what that music was playing downstairs. I told her to be quiet, in a polite way, as I was trying to hear the voices downstairs.

It was as clear as day. One of the men was talking about his aircraft that he was flying and the other sounded like he was talking about medicine. Upon further research of the land my house was on, I found out that it was an old military site during the World War II era and there was a flight line not far from my where my house sits today. As I was not settled quite yet with my research I dug further and found out that right where my garage and laundry room are was the location of a medical tent that housed many people that were diseased with Tuberculosis, Smallpox, and Yellow Fever; many of which died.

With this information and the interesting paranormal activity we were having I decided to call my friend the paranormal investigator back out in hopes of gaining more knowledge about those who reside with us in our home. As we communicated with the paranormal in the house, the paranormal investigator like most asked the ghosts to communicate. There were responses with many very clear knocks on the walls. Let me explain, the investigators would ask a question and would request the ghosts to knock once for yes and twice for no. There were many times we would get two knocks to questions that were asked. This confirmed what I had already suspected; we had others residing in our home besides us.

My wife was fairly frightened by this knowledge and tried to ignore what was happening in our home, but this only invited more activity. One day as she was showering, a shampoo bottle was thrown into the tub, thinking it was our youngest daughter, she threw back the curtain and no one was present.

Due to the fear my wife possessed she had asked a friend to come down to stay with her while I had to go on a business trip. Not realizing then that her friend was once an adamant believer in Satanism, our paranormal guests weren't pleased that she was in our home. They made this very known when one of them threw her cell phone off the couch, which ended up breaking. Mind you she was awake as this happened.

At this point my wife and I both were fed up with the swarm of paranormal activities that seemed to be happening around us so we called in a religious woman to bless the house and ultimately close the doors to any negative paranormal activity. Upon entering our home she immediately smelt what appeared to be pipe tobacco. I must let you know that no one in this house or anyone that has visited has ever smoked pipe tobacco. In the end she did what she set out to do and blessed every doorway and corner in the house. The atmosphere was once again calm.

Since the blessing of our home we have not had any more paranormal activities or at least any extreme activity. Until next time I leave you with this final part of my real ghost stories compilation. If anything extraordinary should ever happen, know that you will be the first to know. Be aware the paranormal is definitely out there, lurking through the shadows waiting to make themselves known. Happy ghost hunting.

Thank you shannon. I only put on paper what I feel. That is definitely the kind of writer I am. It is very difficult for me to write about things I am not passionate about. Also, I absolutely agree with you about the realm of spirits. Happy writing :)
