Real Ghost Whisperer Lives in Ohio

CBS Show Got Its Idea from Mary Ann Winkowski

CBS has a new show on Friday nights. Ghost Whisperer, is a hit starring Jennifer Love Hewitt. But the idea for this show came from a real Ghost Whisperer who lives in Cleveland, Ohio. John Gray, executive producer for the CBS show heard of Mary Ann Winooski's paranormal experiences as a ghost buster for hire and he first met her a year ago. He was very impressed with her ability and adapted her experiences to write the show.

Mary Ann says it wasn't until age 7 that she realized no one else could see what she did. A lot of people didn't believe her, but her grandmother did and took her to funerals to talk to the recently departed.

Mary Ann only sees ghosts who have not crossed over. Once they have crossed she can no longer see or communicate with them.

Mary Ann explains that most people are present at their own wake and funeral and do not walk into the light until the cemetery service. She also says there is a window of 72-80 hours in which a spirit can follow the light and move on into heaven. She says that she has a normal conversation with the ghosts though it is mental and not verbal.

In the CBS show Jennifer Love Hewitt plays Melinda Gordon, a young woman with the unique ability to communicate with the earthbound spirits of people who have died and come to her seeking help. Melinda uses her gift to impart messages and important information to the living, but sometimes the messages she receives are intense and confusing.

The show is very good and it will make you cry at times as you watch it experiencing the pain of the deceased and their family or the loving messages they want relayed to their family. But while watching this show keep your mind open to the possibility and remember there's a real live woman who claims to be able to do this. It is up to you to decide for your belief if Mary Ann is just a great storyteller or if it is possible that she really can do this. I for one like to think that are loved ones are with us for at least a little while after they die to see how much we love and miss them.

Mary Ann says the ladies will always walk over and check out the flowers and the male ghosts they have to count how many cars are in the funeral procession. She says she can only talk to spirits who have not crossed over into the afterlife. Most hang around for just a short time.

Mary Ann is often hired to attend funerals and tie up loose ends or to help relatives have one last conversation with a loved one. Spirits who refuse to cross over are the ones that keep her busy. She charges $100 or more to guide them to the white light.

It'd be interesting to have her go after major ghosts in famous haunted houses & castles. I read that this Friday (10/5) on CBS Melinda's going to run into Bloody Mary! I'd love to see how this turns out!

She's a great story, but not as great as the show itself. Very interesting to see the stories play out in different scenarios each week.

i love the show and wish it were true.but for it to be true there must be a god. But with so much hurt and pain in the world and those who suffer for no reason how can it be true.

I interviewed Mary Ann for my book, "Ghosthunters: On the Trail of Mediums, Dowsers, Spirit Seekers and Other Investigators of America's Paranormal World." She is a charming, humble, and funny woman, not at all what you would expect from someone who talks to dead people!
