Real Golfers in Real Movies

Hollywood has made a movie for almost everything from life underneath the sea and even to space and beyond. It may not come as a surprise if several movies are made about golf. While there are a lot of movies made about the golf, the following movies are based on the true to life stories of the world's best golfers throughout the century.

Follow the Sun (1951)

This film features golf champion Ben Hogan. Hogan here is depicted as a "single-purposed individual to whom golf is everything." A tragic car accident occurs on the height of his very successful career. Hogan is noted for his swing theory and his legendary ball striking ability. He is better known as the greatest ball striker in the game of golf rather than his record as a champion in several tournaments. Hogan is also noted for his deep commitment to practice. His years of trying out several theories and methods finally bore fruit when he finally perfected his swing.

The Tiger Woods Story (1998)

The Tiger Woods story tell the life story of the most sensational and highest paid golfer and athlete of modern times. He is considered as golf's modern day global icon. The story features Tiger's early years up to his first major championship in the 1997 US Masters Tournament.

The Story of Golf (2000)

The Story of Golf is a documentary on golf and how it evolved into a million dollar business today. It is both an entertaining and educational film which would stimulate any viewer to pursue the game with fervor.

The documentary is divided into three volumes. Volume 1 talks about where golf came from and describes the early years of modern golf.

The second volume primarily discusses how golf has evolved in America and how women became involved in golf. Golf stars such as Sam Snead and Ben Hogan are featured in this volume.

The last installment talks about how the game is played today and how technology has popularized the game. Modern day golf heroes such as Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus are featured.

Bobby Jones: Stroke of a Genius (2004)

This is the life story of Robert Tyre Jones, Jr., Commonly known as "Bobby Jones." He is one of the founders of what we know today as the Master's tournament. From complete obscurity he is now known as one the greatest amateur players that the game has produced. The story features how Bobby overcame his temper, perfectionist tendencies and his passion to master and dominate the game. His personality makes him a golfer like no other. Bobby is the only player to date who won a grand slam of the U.S and British amateur golf opens.

The Greatest Game Ever Played (2005)

The movie is about an amateur golfer, Francis Ouimet who did poorly at the 1913 U.S open and was thought to be facing a gigantic task in his bid to compete against professional. Despite all odds, Francis defeated the world's greatest golfers at that time, British champions, Harry Vardon and Ted Ray. The success of Francis in that game brought golf into the American sporting mainstream.
