Real Housewives of Atlanta Aren't Tardy for the Party
Kim Topples Over, the Alter Egos Are Revealed and "Tardy for the Party" Gets a Thumbs Up
Well, while "Tardy for the Party" dominated this episode, there were plenty of other eye-popping moments. I'll skip over Sheree's training session and yet another scene of new BFF's Nene and Lisa hanging out. Candidate for sixth Housewife, Sheree's friend, Tania was back as the two attended some sort of Chippendales' bodybuilding competition. Sheree's trainer, Cliff, was a featured competitor and in between flexing the junk in his trunk and underneath the hood, he attempted to fix her up with a muscle head. As the guy droned on about chicken breasts for breakfast and being a skinny kid, Sheree missed the main attraction, namely Cliff.
Most of the action revolved around Kim's return to the recording booth. She seemed not to realize she'd be singing and cried buckets as she tried to psych herself up to croon the tune. As ridiculous as I find Kim, I actually felt sorry for her. Kim's self-esteem took a beating last season and her confidence in her singing ability was clearly shaken. I will give props to Kandi for her patience with Kim and as I said, that damn song is stuck in my head. After hearing her voice come out of the speakers (well and smoking a cigarette), Kim declares she doesn't think Nene needs to be on the track after all. Something tells me yet another fight will brew between these two.
Finally we have the long-awaited unveiling of the alter-ego photos. The photographer, Derek Blanks, coordinates a swank black-tie affair for the big reveal and as Nene gets her makeup done, she muses about singing on the "Tardy for the Party" track. Headed for a fall, Nene. Headed for a fall. Before the presentation of the pictures, Kim takes a tumble down the stairs. Having done that a time or two myself, I cringed. Her legs looked more than a hot mess and even though she totally played the victim role, I think it's pretty hard to dispute she must have been in some serious pain. However, it was just bizarre that there were so many people crowded around Kim's car while she moaned and groaned. Seriously.
As for the photos, I thought Sheree and Kandi rocked it. I laughed when Sheree said she didn't think she could make a mean face for the picture (riiiiiight) and the partygoers seemed to really connect with Kandi's photo. Nene's was fun, and her husband, Greg, could barely keep his eyes in his head. Lisa's was ok; I liked the Girl Scout, but I don't think she quite captured the bad girl persona. Kim's was flat to me. It showed on her face she really wasn't feeling either of her characters (Stepford Wife and mistress. Go figure on the mistress.)
The night ends with real sixth Housewife, Dwight, offering his event planning/event design services to Sheree, while taking a swipe at Lisa's Closet Freak Fashion Show. Sheree debuted her line, She by Sheree at New York Fashion Week this week and reviews have been mixed. Apparently, her fellow Housewives weren't in attendance.
On to next week. Nene and Kandi get up in each other's grill and Sheree tries again to have an independence party.
