www.freelancehomewriters.net
This site starts off looking like a potential money-maker, promising to make freelance writers several hundred dollars per week writing only a few hours a day. It was not clear immediately what publication(s) this site was hiring for. A few clicks later, the site navigates you to a screen asking you to pay $49.99 -- half off the regular price. Never pay money to make money! This one is not worth pursuing.
www. helium.com
This site is free to join, and offers member the opportunity to write, rate, and read other producers' articles. They have recently updated their format to include debate topics, so if you are just looking to express your opinion, this could be a fun option. Writing general articles will only earn you a small amount based on a pay-per-click system, but Helium also features a marketplace where you have the opportunity to submit articles for possible purchases by online magazines (for around $16 to $120). Writers also can compete in contests, for cash prizes.
www.constantcontent.com
In this site, writers submit material for purchase by third parties, and name their own asking price. Constant Content, however, screens submited material and rejects that which does not meet their standards. In theory it sounds like a good oportunity, but a friend of mine investigated it, and says it is almost impossible to submit your work -- even articles which she has been highly paid for in the past. She reported that if a piece gets rejected, Constant Content provides you with no feedback on how to improve it. It also appears that if a certain undisclosed amount of your work gets rejected, you are permanently banned from the site; also unclear are the payment structures and submission guidelines. In my opinion, this site may be a good option, if you can figure it out and if they will accept any of your articles.

Don't even bother clicking on this one. The only link on the site takes you directly to a book purchase offer -- it advertises itself on Google as a freelance write-from-home site, but it is not
www.myessays.com.
This site buys and sells college-level essays on a variety of topics. You can list your own price, depending on how much you think the essay is worth, but the site keeps 40% of the profits, so keep that in mind. I submitted an old paper of mine for $15 (the minimum you can ask for is ten), and it was accepted. However, you have to have at least $35 in your account to transfer to paypal, so be sure to submit multiple works of high quality. Myessays is a good site for students with papers saved on their computers, or people of any age who enjoy writing essays.

This one is not a get-paid-to-write per say, but it does offer some helpful advice and links.
http://www.getafreelancer.com/
I just found this one recently, but it looks promising. Writers and website designers can bid on projects, with payments ranging from a few dollars to hundreds. Much of it looks like technical-oriented content, so if you have a head for math, science, or engineering this may be your opportunity for make some extra money. However, I did see an ad for a blog producer, so apparently you can find a wide range of projects to bid on. I also noticed a feature where you can be notified if someone underbids you. This site seems like it is hiring for many full-time writers, so if you are just writing fora hobby, this may not be for you.
www.linux.com/writeforus/
Also for the technical-minded, the Linux site offers opportunities for authors to write news, reviews, and features about new products and software. They claim to pay between $100 and $300 per article, and if I knew one thing about Linux, I would be there right now!
www.wiseorb.com
This site is similar to Associated Content -- you submit an article, and they make you an offer based on the quality of your writing and popularity of the topic. However, while AC promises three to twenty dollars per article, Wiseorb only claims to offer an "undisclosed amount". In my case, when I submitted an article, the amount was disapointingly low. However, I got my offer much quicker than with AC. Another problem I had when I tried to submit an article was a rejection on the case of "restricted words", which I took to mean bad language. I carefully reread the article, and couldn't find anything offensive, so I am not entirely clear on Wiseorb's content restrictions. Overall, though, this might be worth spending more time on in the future.
I hope this list has something on it you can use!

Post a CommentThanks for the advice and for all the sites.
I have not experienced the rejections problem with Constant Content. You do, however, have to proofread each item carefully. Their editors are extremely sharp. My main frustration with that site is that it can be difficult to predict which articles will appeal to their clients. For the most marketability, writers may wish to price their articles, but also check the BEST OFFER box. (I have had some very reasonable offers this way, without sacrificing much.) After all, everyone wants to feel that they have made a good deal.
Thanks for sharing this list. I am going to take a peek :)
I have been writing for Constant Content for several months and have had very few articles rejected. They have very high standards for punctuation, spelling, and grammar. One or two errors can get you rejected. Your article must be scrupulously proofread. The few that were rejected were accepted once I corrected the minor errors.
