Toxic Metal or Bogus Rumor?

Anyone else hear all the buzz going around about ZuZu Pets?
You know, these cute little adorable fake rodent pet friends... I'm sorry; I've always been quite frightened of the real live versions of these buggy eyed creatures. Well here is the real set of instructions for the people who have purchased or were thinking about purchasing one of these ZuZu pet toys: Hold Your Horses! It's not that serious. No, really. Give Cepia LLC a break and end all of this negative publicity. The truth is that there really is no real Pet recall. So, this wide-spread "rumor" can now officially be filed with those "Urban Legend" myths. There are a few things to consider though, so let's examine how the rumor started...

The rumor all begin when a company named GoodGuide.com made claims that the ZuZu Pets poised a safety risk. The claim made was that these toys contained a toxic level of tin and antimony. Antimony is a metal and it was supposedly found in "Mr. Squiggles" fur and also in his nose, at a level which exceeds the federal limit of 60 parts per million. These numbers were originally released at GoodGuide.com. They claim that Mr. Squiggles nose had over 100 parts per million and his fur over 90. And these levels are potentially damaging to the nervous and immune systems.

The company which manufactures these pets - Cepia LLC, responded to the ZuZu Pets recall press release with their own issued press-release. In their press release, they make a clear statement that their toys "Pass the industry's most stringent consumer health and safety certification standards." You will find their press release at:

As it stands to this date, there have not officially been any ZuZu Pets recalls. It appears as if both companies are continuing to stand by their claims and public statements. But it truly is within the judgment of the consumer as to who they choose to believe. No single person has come forward yet stating that they have been adversely affected by these toys, so it is all just "hearsay" as of now.
