Realities About New Year Resolutions

Why Resolutions and Plans Are Rational and Necessary

One of the first things we must know and remember about New Year Resolutions is that it is still a very rational and realistic thing to do for all, especially serious adults who are determined to live a better life year after year. We must not see this as just a yearly ritual.

Over the years, I have seen people quit their resolutions after just a few weeks. Others just stay stand aside and laugh at us as we organize our lives for success. But Resolution is about careful and sensible planning with consistent efforts to accomplish all our plans throughout the year. There will be problems or obstacles, but we have to adjust, revise and re-implement our ideas and goals until the year end when we once again have new ones.

I believe the most important issue about making and succeeding with New Year Plans is to be very realistic about what we intent to achieve. Many will use the example of the person who wants to lose weight, but must be smart to do so gradually over a time instead of planning to get very slim in just a week or two weeks. Most doctors and dietitians will correctly tell and advice that person that this is not possible. But that they will need to plan in a sensible way to do so over a normal rational period of time. On the internet, for example, there are thousands or millions of website owners with small web businesses who really want instant success. This is possible in a few cases. But even in the world of internet business (and although there are billions of people on the web) this takes time and is to be done rationally or realistically. Life for humans is organized that way, so we have to realize this. Exceptions are there, but New Year Resolutions are really about the normal person life - not necessarily the exceptions.

One of the other most essential points to tackle for success is consistency. The world was not created in one day and serious brilliant scientists never normally have a great invention or creation in a day, week, month or year. Sometimes it takes years...though it begins with a day decision. But all of them who are and were successful demonstrated consistency day after day. Likewise, if we normal regular people will succeed with our resolutions, we have to be consistent in what we do day after day.

The ability to withstand criticism is another point. Many people will make plans for a better life base on adverse personal circumstances that need corrections. In such cases, criticisms from some family and friends will come our way - and this is very real in our lives. So what do we do? Stay the course and focus on the positive encouragements we will receive from others. The negative remarks will not just go way, we have to learn how to correctly deal with them and stick to our plans to achieve our goals. On the opposite side where there are positive remarks and helpful actions, we must remember to express our appreciation and do whatever great advice and support come our way.

Seek and get real support. Some people are so determined to do things their own way when it comes to Resolutions that may sometimes forget to ask for help and advice. No person will stand and succeed alone in our daily real life environment. Sometimes will need help from someone or an organization (like a social club, non-profit institution or church). Some of us will have plans that are so large to accomplish (in financial and other terms) that assistance is a must to succeed. I know it all attitude and pride will not help any of us. The smart person is the one who will ask for personal and professional help. For example, if you plan to start a web store on the internet but do not have good website building skills, you need to get technical assistance from a friend or family member. The company hosting your site may be asking for too much to do the work, so it will make sense to get help elsewhere. Likewise if we need cash to do other plans, we have to ask those who can and will most likely assist us with a loan or grant without causing undue financial stress or distress on in our lives or that of our families. Therefore, real support in order to accomplish our Resolutions is a must if we are to succeed by the end of our plan time.

Plan to change if need be. Here constant review becomes essential. We will probably make some mistakes in our initial New Year Resolution Plans, so we will have to correct those when we discover them. Monitoring and making relevant necessary changes is normal, smart and demonstrates a sense of determination to succeed - the right way. It is just not right to see a wrong in our plans and ignore it when it will most likely prevent us from achieving our goals.

Therefore, we know that New Year Resolutions make sense. How to accomplish our own personal goals will differ from person to person because of unique circumstances. But the information above will help us to successfully achieve our plans. We must be realistic, consistent, endure criticism, get real support and make necessary changes if we are to achieve all or most of our New Year Resolutions.

  • Plan realistically to do want you need to do without setting too much for yourself.
  • We must remember to get friendly and professional advice to accomplish our plans.
  • Make necessary changes as need be and do not ignore what are not working in your plans.
If we do not plan to succeed, then we just expect to fail.
