Reality Shows Have Become Unpopular

Within the last fifteen years television networks have made sure to bombard us with reality shows. There have been shows that have given us a close up view in the lifestyle of celebrities while there have been others that covered the lives of Joe Public. It no longer is important what reality shows are about because we have been so overwhelmed with them that has contributed to their rapid decrease in popularity.

Reality shows have poisoned the minds of people especially our youth, who sometimes find role models in these shows. These shows actually display the opposite of what they intended to portray. They give people a false sense of reality. Whenever cameras are around filming someone's every move they have the tendency to be on their best behavior. By these shows being somewhat scripted it definitely takes away the element of surprise. Reality shows have become such a growing phenomenon that they actually had a network created just for them. It seems like every other week a new type of reality show is created. It does not take long for the average television viewer to get tired of a particular genre of broadcasting. Reality shows were cash cows for advertisers in their introduction stage. They almost came across as the best thing since slice bread! There were several reality shows that had increased product placement such as; American idol, amazing race, and big brother only to name a few.

Reality shows played a major role in revitalizing several networks that had unsatisfactory viewing ratings. When reality shows were first introduced to us we were impressed by them but as time went by the content became rather ridiculous. There were a few shows that actually tried to have sequels. That kind of reminds us of all of those 80s sitcoms spin offs. Reality shows might have been popular when they first came out but now they have kind of overstayed their welcome. Viewers have gotten tired of them because they have saturated television programming. If they lived up to their names by showing realistic situations that were somewhat convincing their longevity might be possible.
