Reality Shows Are a Kick in the Head

It's the beginning of a New Year and we are bombarded with the new shows that will be making the rounds and rotting our brains for the next season. I previously wrote about "Frank: The Entertainer" and his quest to look for a new girlfriend within the confines of his parents basement. I wait with baited breath for the next season of "Real Housewives of New York" and wonder if we truly have seen enough of "The Girls Next Door." For those who haven't entered the mansion gates since Holly, Kendra and Bridget left-don't bother, the new girls have the personalities of door stops. With the announced premiere of a reality show about Aspen I wonder will any of my fantasies remain just that?

I was like many young women and for the past couple of years, I bought any and everything Playboy. The extra small t-shirts, the bunny head necklaces, the thongs. I've actually sold some of the Playboy items off my back while traveling abroad because that's just how powerful the allure of Playboy is. Then "Girls Next Door" premiered and Pandora's box was opened. For me, it was a real eye opener because once you got past all the glitz and celebrities and fabulosity (thanks Kimora!), I realized I was supporting the habits of a man who chooses to never socially evolve and chose to always date those who never possessed characteristics to be his intellectual equal. Once his "Playmates" evolved and started having independent thought, they were slowly ushered out the door. Hmmm..I decided to read the tell all written by one of his exes and after that, I was finished with the façade which was Playboy. I felt like I was told there was no Santa!

Many of the reality shows are taking away any fantasy I had about certain things. One of my favorite shows on E was "Vegas Showgirls: Nearly Famous." I love showgirls and every time I go to Vegas I take the backstage tour of Jubilee and wish I could stuff a gal in my back pocket. I must admit though that after E did their show and you hear the performers complain about money and eating and all the other things that commoners do, it kind of took some of the polish off.

These family shows are even worse. The world watches as peoples lives are bought and sold for the sake of ratings and its pretty sad that people continue to watch instead of letting the shows die a quiet death. If keeping up with any family involves the malarkey that I have heard thus far, they can keep it.

Now back to that Aspen reality show.....its getting harder and harder to have any type of wonder as an adult. All the fantasy one could have about a place or thing is being demolished in the wake of writers not wanting to do their job. I don't want reality anymore....give me my fantasy back!
