If cheap family vacation destinations are a popular money-saver in these economic times, than these really cheap family vacation destinations are sure to be a hit with even the pickiest member of your family. If you're looking for someplace new to travel to that's inexpensive and fun for the whole family. chances are these vacation spots should fit the bill.

Center for Disease Control Petting Zoo
Atlanta, Georgia
Cost: $5.00 adults, $3.00 children. Under 2 - Free.

There's a lot to see, do and touch for the whole family. Sign up to be a test subject and receive free admission.

Positives: Children get to pet the test animals and learn more about contagions in a fun, educational environment.
Plentiful park staph is everywhere and easy to find.

Negatives: Latex gloves and breathing masks are bulky and uncomfortable for smaller children.

East Lansing Water Treatment Splash Park
East Lansing, Michigan
Cost: $2.00 general admission. Half-off on days over 90 degrees and no wind.

Combining the city's waste water treatment center with a wave pool seemed like a good money-making idea back in the 1980s when the park first opened. And with a 2-dollar admission price and half-off tickets when the temperature is over 90 degrees, this park is still quite a bargain.

Positives: Low cost and free nose plugs make this park a real bargain.
You can take home as much free water as you want (30 gallon limit).

Negatives: Wave machine known to get clogged with raw sewage and breakdown on a regular basis.
Visitors with open cuts or wounds are prohibited from swimming.

Colorado World of Lead
Leadville, Colorado
Cost: $3.00 for adults. $2.00 for children. Seniors Free.

Travel back in time to a world filled with lead. Kids can get hands on in the House of Chipping Paint Exhibit where they can peel lead-filled paint off a real 1950's house. Adults can take a leisurely stroll through the Museum of Toxic Substances or drink a variety of beverages from actual goblets made from the world's most versatile metal.

Positives: Cheap, inexpensive vacation fun for the whole family.

Negatives: Complicated medical liability release forms.

Town Council Hall of Fame
Springfield, Missouri
Cost: free to the general public

Modeled after Walt Disney World's famous Hall of Presidents, the Town Council Hall of Fame features a live and animated reenactment of famous Town Council meetings. Listen with wonder as town councils throughout the ages discuss city ordinances such as: relocating dumpsters, repairing sidewalks, and much, much more.

Positives: Skilled reenactors make this a fully immersive experience to recreate the excitement of an actual town council meeting.

Negatives: Sleeping is strictly prohibited. Benches are uncomfortable after four hours of sitting.

National Landfill Museum
Newark, New Jersey
Cost: $5.00 for adults. Children under 10 are free.

Sift through hundreds of acres of trash in the world's largest landfill. Climb to the top of Mount Waste for a breathtaking view of nine counties.

Positives: Unlike many museums, which keep their exhibits behind glass, this is a fully interactive experience for the whole family. Visitors can touch, feel, smell and sort through literally tons of museum artifacts. With new exhibits arriving daily, this museum is never the same twice.

Negatives: Whatever you do, avoid the Gift Shop.

Who says you have to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on your next family vacation? With so many cheap family vacation destinations to choose from, the toughest part is figuring out which one to visit first. Of course as inexpensive as these fictional vacation hot-spots are, you can probably afford to take the entire family to all of them.
