Reason
A melancholy morning turns to wanderlust
As the dew drips down from the twilight before
I find myself looking for a reason
To run and shelter myself from every closed and opening door.
I see your face in every waking and sleeping dream
Your eyes gentle and wanting as you look at me
Your touch warms the tender grace of my skin, heals the scars
Of what life has done and what is meant to be.
I stand at your shoulder and watch your body ease near me
Drawing you closer waiting to feel my touch, my arms wrapped around you
You surrender and melt into my body, eyes tired and weary
Safe in love, rapture, bearing your soul and truth.
One can measure the pain of hurt and loss
By the depth of love felt inside
I have cried myself a river of tears, sheltered from the sun
There are no more places for me to hide.
So here I stand in the midst of your longing gaze
Wishing I knew your thoughts, the feeling in your heart
I wish to know the depth of your desire and fears
For it is I who can mend you, give you a new start.
When the hands of the clock click away midnight hours
And you find yourself alone lying among the peace you seek in a warm bed
Feel my touch envelope you, sweep you up in sweet rapture, my kiss
Memories of love and tenderness fill your aching body and head.
I will never forget the first love I saw in your eyes and smile
The first time you whispered "I love you," and meant it with every breath, said with such care
I now stand in the shadows waiting for that time again
Longing to make you mine, heal your pain, raise you from your despair.
For it I who followed every curve of your body, making love in the light and dark
I know your heart, mind, and held you as your shared your soul
I shall remain your fire in the night
The blanket that warms you, takes away the cold.
A melancholy evening turns to the sky to dream
When all travelers have lost their way
I find myself once again looking for a reason
But alas, I love you are the only words I can find to say.
