Reasons Every Dog Should Go to "Doggie Daycare"

Doggie daycare may seem like a crazy concept to some. Kids go to daycare not dogs, right? There are reasons that dog owners should reconsider. Doggie daycare offers many benefits for both dog and owner. Below are four reasons every dog owner should consider doggie daycare.

Socialization

Dogs need socialization with both other dogs and with humans. Have you ever been afraid to take your dog for a walk for fear of how it would behave when around other dogs or people? Doggie daycare is the perfect way to address this. When dogs are around and playing with other dogs their tolerance level increases. They become well-behaved creatures who are good natured the way that dogs should be.

Doggie daycare is always supervised by of course a human. At the doggie daycare I take my dog to, there happen to be people walking in and out as I am paying or walking her inside and therefore she is constantly exposed to human contact with someone other than myself.

Release of Energy

If you have watched the "Dog Whisperer" with Cesar Milan, you know that dogs that misbehave are generally not getting enough exercise. Generally while we are working dogs are couped up in the house or in a crate. This leads to frustration in the dog, which may lead them to bite, bark, destroy furniture etc.

Doggie daycare is a complete release of energy. By the time I pick my dog up from doggie daycare, she is so tired she is asleep the minute we get into the car and has to be woken up when we arrive at home 25 minutes later. This exercise is great for both their physical and mental health.

Generally the dogs are tired until the next morning, which makes it nice to take a dog to doggie daycare if you have errands to run that night. It is a lot easier to leave a dog at home after being at work all day when you know they have been playing while you were off at work. So go ahead and go out to eat or go run errands your dog will sleep trust me!

They Are Trained

A majority of doggie daycare facilities are run by dog trainers who also offer obedience training. That being said generally leaving your dog for the day at one of the places means your dog will receive some type of training. Yes you are paying for doggie daycare but you are not paying for training so if you happen to be getting some of that two it is an added bonus.

It is Fun

Most dogs love doggie daycare. The minute I take the leash out and ask my dog if she wants to "go to school", she starts hopping with excitement. Knowing that while I am at work for a day or two a week, she is having a great time is good for me as well. I do not take her everyday because it is expensive. Most doggie daycare classes range from $17-$25 per day. The days she does get to go however are a nice added treat.
