I have been an active blood donator since my Fiancée AC writer Ann Hulbert talked me into it about 7 years ago. I have the universal blood type which is O Negative so I am popular with the American Red Cross during blood drives.
Unless you just completely freak out at the thought of needles then giving blood is no big deal. It does not hurt other than mildly when inserting and removing the needle. I am a big wuss and wouldn't give blood if it was very painful, to be honest. When giving blood you will also get so munch out on some good snacks and meet new people.
Giving blood does not take long and but I usually take a book along to read. That comes in handy if you have to wait long to donate blood. This is the one thing I don't mind a long waiting line for, when people are lined up to give blood.
The biggest reason to give blood is that it saves lives. We all need blood and accidents or surgery needs can happen to anyone. It is good karma to give blood; you may well need some yourself one day.
Think of old people and or children dieing because not enough people give blood. Sure it's a guilt trip but if I can get one new blood donor then it's well worth my time. Giving blood ensures that there is enough on hand for major emergencies like Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Terrorist Attacks or a school bus full of kids wrecked on the interstate.
You can schedule an appointment to give blood with the American Red Cross or just find a local blood drive. You will usually see the signs up for a blood drive and or hear about it on the radio. Please do donate a little time and some of the red stuff we all need, you may save a life!

Everyone who is able should try it and see if it is a good fit for them.
Great reasons to give blood! Thanks!
I'm waiting for the NC Guru of sports to write a prediction of the Redskin's for the coming year. Even the big time sports writers think the Skin's finally got it right. Add that to Snyder fading into the distance and letting Shanahan and Allen run the football ops and the Skin's might have a good year. C'mon Randy - you'll get thousands of hopeful Redskin fans reading it, so write it for me. I know ya hate the Skin's and love to crack on them, but c'mon Randy. PV's are yours for the earning. Do it!
Great article, Randy! What better gift?
Great article. I strongly believe in donating blood to help others. Unfortunately, I'm always deferred because I travel to the Philippines quite a bit. It's frustrating, because I have one of those much needed blood types. Good job, Randy!
Excellent article Randy, my local parish & elementary school hosts blood drives and it is always a large turnout. Thanks brother!
I went to give blood once while the Red Cross was setup at my college, but had a fever and wasn't able to. It seems like every time I see the Red Cross setup I've been sick within the past week, which is a no-no. I do hope to give blood at some point :) Great article!
