Reasons to Love Microsoft Netmeeting as a Troubleshooting Tool

Microsoft NetMeeting is Armed with File Transfer Tools, Desktop Sharing, and Chat Tools

Have you ever found yourself explaining a computer problem to someone? When you're explaining, are there moments that you wish they could see your screen and what you're doing?

I've been a software support technician for the last ten years. In this time, one of the most valuable tools that have evolved as a troubleshooting tool is Microsoft NetMeeting. I've decided to create a list of reasons to love Microsoft NetMeeting.

It's Free

Microsoft NetMeeting is a free program that is typically preloaded as a standard program on Windows XP Home and Professional, and Windows 2000 computers. Although Microsoft is phasing this software from Windows Vista, NetMeeting is a wonderful tool if you are using an older operating system and it doesn't cost anything to use.

All You Need Is a Network Connection

NetMeeting requires a network connection to the Internet. The only other thing required is another computer with an IP address that can be used to connect to. With these two items in place, there are no connection fees, no fees for the amount of time connected, and no fee for how much or how little you use the software.

Wonderful Tool

If you need to assist a friend, relative, coworker, or anyone else that needs computer help, this tool is the best tool hands down. By using this software you can view the desktop of another computer, as long as they allow for remote access. You can transfer a file to the other computer, and use a chat tool.

Secure

NetMeeting puts security in the hands of the computer that is allowing remote control. At any point, the host user can take back control of their machine by hitting the spacebar key on their keyboard. NetMeeting cannot be used for someone to reach without the initiative from the host user. This makes everyone feel secure, and at ease in this situation.

Microsoft NetMeeting is hands down one of the best support tools I've ever used. My only disappointment is that Microsoft decided to charge for the tool, and rename it to Windows Live Meeting in the Windows Vista operating system. Enjoy this software for free, while it lasts!
