Reasons I Love Winter

Wendy Brock
Watching the snowflakes fall and float outside my window reminds me how much I love winter. Bundling up in my favorite sweater and making a cup of hot chocolate stirs conjures up the beauty of winter. Mother nature's gift of snow along with time to spend with my family are reasons I love winter.

BEAUTY OF NATURE
Looking out the window on a cold winter morning and seeing the snow that has collected on the tree limbs is peaceful. Winter is filled with beautiful gifts from Mother Nature in the form of icicles and delicate snowflakes. The crisp air is refreshing and the sound of crunching snow beneath heavy boots is a reminder of childhood and building snowmen.

TIME WITH FAMILY
Since there isn't much to do outside, many evenings are spent indoors with family members. Winter is the perfect time of year to spend time with loved ones playing games, reading together and getting to know each other better. The winter holidays bring everyone closer together with gifts and grand dinners. Watching a movie while snuggled with a loved one under a soft quilt is a wonderful way to spend a cold winter night.

SNOW DAYS
There is nothing better than waking up and finding out that school or work has been canceled and the rest of the day is yours to relax. Spend the day catching up on housework or reading a book. Some of the worst winter weather can bring the most rejuvenating days.

CATCHING UP ON SLEEP
Since the days are shorter during the winter, going to bed early isn't such a chore. The cool evenings makes it easy to slip into a warm bed under heavy blankets and into deep sleep. Much like bears hibernating, winter is a reminder for us to slow down and take care of ourselves. Sleeping 8 to 9 hours a night is the best way to feel refreshed and ready for the next day.

SHOPPING
The best sales are during the winter months. From Thanksgiving to New Year's Day, stores have numerous sales to lure in customers. These sales are a great way to save money on Christmas gifts. Since staying at home too long can cause "cabin fever," getting out for a little shopping relieves the feeling of being trapped at home.

Time seems to pass slower in winter, giving the chance to realize the beauty around us. The extra time gives us time for family and for oneself. Winter is refreshing and a time for everyone to slow down a bit from a hectic schedule. Winter is a blessing.
