Reasons NOT to Follow Trends

W. Davies
Every year or most likely every season of the year there is a new trend that lasts as long as the season. At this time department stores and teen clothing stores make it a point to stock up on the latest trend. I remember when the short ruffle skirts were in fashion. Everywhere I went there they were, and everywhere I went I needed to buy a new skirt in a different color. My mother said it was a waste of money I just said that it was an investment. If you were to ask me what can I show for that investment I would say nothing except for some self-esteem boost points. That's all that matters right? If you feel good for those few weeks or months that you're a part of the newest fad.

#1 Waste of Money

Trends are a waste of money for you, me, and everyone else who walks through the mall telling themselves that they are just window shopping, when really their ready for a "me" day. If you drop $80 on that cute bag, ask yourself will it be cute in 2, 4, or even 6 months when something else comes out. Designer's make money off of impulse buying. Most of the time that item that you lay your babysitting money down for will not look good to you by the end of the month, just saying.

#2 There is always going to be another trend

Simply, if you buy things based on your trend watch before you can blink something else will be there to replace that item.

#3 Lack Individuality/Creativity

Trends are another way for people to conform to society, by dressing the same. The last thing that I can stand is going to a party and seeing a girl with the same dress. Safari print is in now so we both cruise to the nearest H&M or Forever 21 to get that must have item. People who set trends have all the benefits. They always manage to wear things that people want and people would have never have thought of putting together. Not having the latest Ugg boots or gladiator sandals may hurt. What hurts even more is when you spend so much money and the girl that goes to the little hole in the wall boutique has a better sense of style, and spent half the money that you did for twice the amount of clothes.
