Reasons to Not Wear Glasses or Contacts

Roger C.
Many people are dependant to their glasses and they have them on all the time; to read, watch TV, cook, or even to walk. It is true that sometimes wearing glasses is a necessity, and it sucks to have bad eyesight. I'm writing through experience, but you should wear your glasses as seldom as you can, and here are some of the reasons why.

There are two types of glasses: minus-glasses and plus-glasses and they are used to correct different eye defects. Minus-glasses are used when we can't see things that are far from us, but what they do to correct this problem is to lock our sight in a fixed state depending on your prescription. This strains our optical muscles and leads to staring and stiffening, which are signs of a bad vision.

Besides, they also distort the images we see. Is like looking through one of those crazy mirrors in a county fair. Objects look smaller, out of proportion and closer than they actually are. This is particularly true when you deal with objects which are close to you or in activities such as reading. Your eyes try to focus harder and this leads to near-point stress.

The other type of glasses, the plus-glasses is used by people with problems focusing nearby objects, so they are most commonly called reading glasses. The whole idea for this is they make everything look bigger and farther, so this relieves near point stress in a way, but you still see everything distorted and you shouldn't use them in any other activity. Doing so when driving or playing sports may cause very unpleasant results.

Another bad thing about glasses besides the eye strain they cause and the distorted images you see, is convenience. If you have been wearing glasses for some time you know how uncomfortable they can get. They get foggy when it is cold or humid, you can't play contact sports with them on (and you can't play without them either because you won't see) and you have to be aware of them all the time, otherwise you can lose them.

Contacts may be a solution for some people, but they carry their problems as well. They can get dry and feel uncomfortable or they can also damage your eyes if used without proper hygiene or for longer periods of time than recommended. They can also get lost pretty easily and you have to carry a small container all times in case you need to take them off.

On the bright side, you can play sports, objects look like they should, you don't have to take them off and on constantly, and you don't look like a dork, so they are a good alternative and you don't have to afford the costs and risks of Lasik surgery.
