Reasons to Persue a Master's Degree

I'm working on getting my masters of arts in teaching under the elementary education track from University of Phoenix Online. I am halfway through the program and can't wait to graduate. Why did I choose to pursue this degree? The answer is quite simple. I want to better myself and become the best teacher I can possibly be. I've always enjoyed higher education and having the opportunity to expand my mind. After I get my master's degree, I will have broadened my horizons and opened new doors that wouldn't have opened for me otherwise.

In all fifty states, teachers who have master's degrees get paid a lot better than teachers who only have a bachelor's degree. The same is true for almost all professions out there so chances are high that you will benefit from getting a master's degree. Even if there isn't a big pay increase, your chances of getting a job significantly agree since you're more likely to get hired than someone who just has a bachelor's degree. Having a master's degree will give you that extra competitive edge, and who doesn't want that?Having a master's degree shows employers that you have determination and motivation. Going for that additional degree lets employers know that you really apply yourself and go after opportunities and chances. When you have a master's degree, you get the opportunity to move up in your field and even become a president or manager. Lots of companies will even pay for the tuition, or you can select from one of several financing options.

The truth is that bachelor's degrees aren't really enough anymore. Many states require teachers to have a master's degree and encourage them to get additional credits. While bachelor's degrees are still important and will get you much further than a high school degree, they won't take you as far as they used to. In the age of technology and rapidly fast information, having a master's degree is becoming more important than ever. Masters are the new bachelor's and more and more people are going for their masters degree than ever before.

It's now easier than ever to get a masters degree since many colleges have online classes or evening classes on campus for working adults. In fact, a lot of my classmates are working moms and wives. Many programs will even let you pick from a combination of both if that's what you want to do. With online classes, you can work around your schedule and save time on commuting and getting dressed. Another benefit is that you don't have to spend money on gas, and gas isn't cheap these days. I've been a graduate school student since August of 2007 and haven't regretted it for a minute. I can't wait to get my master's degree, and am looking quite forward to using it.
