Reason # 1 - Avoiding Crowds
Let's be honest here. Dealing with crowded stores can be claustrophobic and overwhelming and completely not necessary when there are so many ways to place orders online.
Crowded stores mean nothing but aggravated and mean customers sure to dampen the holiday spirit you set out with when you left the house.
Reason # 2 - More Selection
As a petite person with a very tall fiancée I can assure you most actual stores do not offer these "special sizes". However quite a few online stores do. For example, both Gap and Banana Republic just added a big and tall section (only available online).
Sizes are not the only thing that is featured online. Most warehouses can hold much more than a tiny store meaning quite often they have "online exclusive" styles.
Reason # 3 - Free Shipping
Major shopping trips can mean bringing major bags into the house. This can be tedious and can be straining. Free shipping is offered at so many stores online today, which means oftentimes you can get items delivered right to your doorstep.
Reason # 4 - Saving Gas
Trekking from store to store or mall to mall to find the perfect gift can mean many trips and many miles on your car. Simply shopping online will avoid all of that wasted gas money and wear and tear on your car.
Reason # 5 - Search Engine Feature
Targeted shopping is key at the holiday's to avoid spending too much money. Most stores have a search engine feature so if you are looking for something specific (i.e. New England Patriots jacket), you can type this in and find it online or if you are already in the stores website search the store for it.
This avoids dangerous "window shopping" by getting you directly to wear you need to be to purchase what you set out to in the first place.
Of course there are many arguments on the other side of the discussion. Shopping in stores helps save jobs and allows you to actually see and feel the item you are purchasing and in some cases this is necessary but in the end the benefits shopping online at Christmas are pretty substantial.
