Reasons to Support Rachel and Puck as a Couple on Glee

Although Glee remains in hiatus until April 13, fans continue to debate whether or not Rachel Berry should end up with Finn Hudson or Noah Puckerman (Puck). There are so many compelling reasons to support Rachel and Puck as a couple.

Rachel and Puck on Glee: The Viewers

One obvious reason to support Rachel and Puck is that this couple would give the viewers what they want. According to an E Online poll, 61.4 percent of viewers prefer Rachel and Puck compared to 38.6 who prefer Rachel and Finn. Given that television shows thrive on ratings, this is something the writers should take into account.

Rachel and Puck on Glee: Defying Television Cliches

Rachel and Finn would be a television cliche. We've seen this movie/show too many times. The geeky brainy girl always triumphs over the head cheerleader and ends up with the nice popular guy. Just watch Mean Girls, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Hilary Duff's A Cinderella Story as cases in point.

The one notable exception was Dawson's Creek where Joey ultimately chose Pacey over boy-next-door Dawson. Interestingly enough, Puck has a similar appeal to Pacey in being the hunky rebel with the heart of gold.

Rachel and Puck on Glee: Chemistry

The natural chemistry of Rachel and Puck lights up the screen. Who didn't love Puck when he serenaded her with Sweet Caroline? As Puck explained, "we're just a couple of good-looking Jews. It's natural!" This is not to suggest that they should date solely on the basis of their common faith. Still, it doesn't hurt that Puck's Jewish mother would be so pleased to see her son with a 'nice Jewish girl.' Besides, Lea Michele and Mark Salling look fabulous together.

Rachel and Puck on Glee: Personal Growth

During their brief romance, we saw Puck become a better person because of Rachel. While they were together Puck developed compassion and empathy. He experienced the humiliation of having a slushie thrown in his face, making him less likely to do that to someone again in the future.

Early in the series, Puck often criticized glee club and the arts as being 'too gay.' When he sang Sweet Caroline in front of the glee club, he showed that he was no longer afraid to show his artistic side.

At the same time, Puck has a strong enough personality to keep the talented but sometimes egotistical Rachel in check. While the well-meaning Finn often finds himself belly-up to his girlfriends and giving into peer pressure, Puck is confident and knows who he is. As he often said, "I'm a stud!"

Hopefully Rachel and Puck will find a way to rekindle their romance once Glee returns in April. It would certainly be a treat for Puckleberry shippers everywhere.
