Reasons Why a Mosque at Ground Zero is a Bad Idea

A Mosque at Ground Zero

Kurt Evans
There are many reasons why a mosque at ground zero is a bad idea. The events that happened on September 11, 2001, were a tragedy of immense proportions. When terrorists crashed airplanes into the twin towers in New York, it spread terror throughout the United States.

Mosque At Ground Zero, Victory For Al-Qaeda

In the United States we have freedom to practice any kind of religion that we choose. I think that if they were allowed to build a mosque at ground zero, that it would be a slap in the face to all the people that died on that day. It would be a victory for Al-Qaeda because it would mean that the very terrorists that killed so many people on that day, would be allowed to practice their religion in the very spot that they caused so much destruction.

Not All Muslims Are Extremists Or Terrorists

While, it's true that not all muslims are extremists or terrorists, it sets a bad precedent and puts a deep scar in the minds of the people who had loved ones that died on that day, if, a mosque was allowed at ground zero in New York.

Out Of Respect

I think that out of respect for the survivors of 9/11, and the people that died on that day, that area should be a memorial out of respect for all the life that was lost on that day.

Mosque At Ground Zero

If a mosque is built at ground zero, it means Al-Qaeda wins. And, it also means that terrorism works. This would mean there would be more terrorist attacks throughout the world and the United States because terrorists know what buttons to push to get their way. And, we know based on their past actions, that terrorists and members of Al-Qaeda aren't afraid to die for their cause.

Listen people, the Islamic Community has the right to build the mosque at the current designated location. It is not "On Ground Zero", and there is numerous other reasons to allow the process. But the main reason is overlooked for some unknown reason...Muslims where killed during the 9/11 attacks...Muslims have lost their lives defending this nation that we walk on every single day...They deserve every principle right that any other American Citizen. And its sad that there is such a large population that oppose this.

Let them build it. They'll just have to get used to NYPD parking their vehicles in front of it every day from now on. Why will NYPD do that? No clue. NYPD won't care if they have a gela right to do it. They just will.

    Very well said.

Should building a mosque near to ground zero be legal? Yes. I don't want the government telling people where they can build religious buildings. Is it smart from a PR perspective? Probably not.

i think that building a ground mosque in the united states were on september 11 . when we had the 9/11 attack is very disrespectful. the muzzilims destryoed the twin towers and all this hatrid went around why would they want to build a mosque were they casn worship so close to were they had to destroy its just not right!!

Actually the location is NOT ground zero. It is a few blocks away. I agree with Kirby and Davida. I do not agree that Al-Qaeda wins this way. In fact associating any religion with terrorism is wrong. Terrorism has no religion.

While people have a right to build their religious centres I think it would be sensitive in this case for the people involved to build elsewhere.

It IS very disrepectful...the fact that this is even an issue in a country with freedom of religion. This mosque/ community center is NOT at Ground Zero...it's blocks away and can't even be seen from Ground Zero. It is an old Burlington Coat Factory store. An empty, old building up for sale and some people who happened to be Muslim decided to buy it to build a community center where Muslims can gather and worship. They should NOT give in. It's a matter of principle now, and I commend the Muslims who are building this center for sticking to it and not giving in. It's so sad how quickly things have changed in this country. They should move the mosque somewhere else? Where? In Staten Island, Tenessee, California, people everywhere are protesting the building of mosques. As a Muslim, I find this very sad and scary that people are moving in this direction and hope it's just a phase.
