Reasons Why You Should Participate in the Operation Medicine Cabinet Program

The Birmingham Police Department has joined forces with the Oakland County Sheriff's Department in the, "Operation Medicine Cabinet," Program. Residents are asked to bring their unused prescription medications to the Birmingham Police Department for safe disposal.

There are many benefits that the community of Birmingham will enjoy from using this program. I spoke to Dr. David Trevor who has been leading the charge for programs of this kind across the country. He pointed out these four reasons to participate in the Operation Medicine Cabinet Program through the Birmingham Police Department:

1. You do not have to be concerned with how to dispose of your medication.

2. The disposal system that is being used by the Birmingham Police Department for the, Operation Medicine Cabinet Program is environmentally safe. Some prescription medications can have an adverse affect on the environment. Plants can become poisoned, and wild animals can die if medication is not properly disposed of.

3. Old medication can have increased side effects if left around and taken at a later date. You can avoid these issues by participating in the Operation Medicine Cabinet Program.

4. With the growing number of people that abuse prescription medications, you are helping (in a small way) to better your community by having your unused prescription medication taken care of under the Operation Medicine Cabinet Program.

You can drop off your unused prescription medication at any time at the Birmingham Police Department. Just let them know that you want it disposed of under the Operation Medicine Cabinet Program.
