What Will You Do with Your Rebate Money?

Free money is nice, deciding how to spend it is the hard part. Tax rebates might not be here for a while, but have you thought about how you will spend yours? Will you blow all your money or put some away for a rainy day? If you are expecting a rebate check why don't you spend it on something that will benefit you more in the long run? The rebate checks are meant for consumers to spend and boost the economy, but if your debt ridden why not pay down some of your debt? Credit card debt is soaring and studies show that the average American credit card holder holds seven credit cards. Pay down some of that debt, this will help your credit score and get those monkeys off your back.

There are a lot of SMART ways to spend your rebate, for instance start a savings account. There's no telling when you might need a little extra cash. Job loss and accidents happen every day and there's no telling when your washing machine or dish washer might quit. Instead of borrowing money from the bank that you will have to pay interest on, use your saved cash and have no payments or interest to pay.

Put some of the money into home repairs. If you haven't made necessary repairs and have avoided upkeep, now would be the time to invest in your home and fix things that have needed to be fixed. Your home may be your biggest assets, it will pay to take care of it in the long run.

Make an extra mortgage or car payment. This will help reduce the number of payments you have left. This can also reduce the amount of interest charge you pay. You may also want to think about repairs on your vehicle. If something has been giving you trouble, get it checked out before it turns to something that will cost you hundreds of dollars to fix.

It is okay to buy yourself something. You may want to splurge on a new wardrobe, jewelry, an ATV, or whatever it may be. Remember these key words: always in moderation. If you're going to buy something, make it worth your while. There's nothing wrong with buying something that you may have wanted for a while, but remember to take care of your responsibilities first. Your financial well being is worth more than a material item.

I know we are putting the majority of our money in the bank. We already spent a ton of money buying a new vehicle, the Wii with all the gizmos, and huge Christmas bill! The one thing we will be spending our money on is...don't laugh....having our cat's teeth cleaned at the vet!!!
