Now, onto this week's episode entitled "Salt Meets Wound".
Hanna's story
At the beginning of this week's episode, Hanna is back at home and trying to cover up A's message on her plaster. Her friends are there to help her settle in, and while they go to sort out the rest of her things, Hanna looks for food in cupboards and knocks down some boxes with her crutch. While she tries to tidy up, she finds the wads of cash her mother, Ashley stole from work. Hanna gets a text from A saying, "Like Mommy like daughter. Can you run from the law on those legs?" Later, Hanna asks Ashley about the money and she says it was an "unauthorized loan" which she borrowed from a customer who won't know and that she will pay it all back before she finds out.
That evening, Mona (Janel Parrish) arranges a surprise party at Hanna's house. Hundreds of kids from school turn up, including Noel and Lucas (Brendan Robinson). Hanna flips when she sees Noel going towards the cupboard where the money is hidden and the scene cuts to a flashback.
The flashback shows Noel at a party with his then girlfriend. She gets a text and tells him they're over. Noel looks over at Ali and says "Happy now?" Aria asks what happened and Ali says they broke Noel and his girl up and that they did it for Aria, even though none of the other girls had a hand in it.
Hanna then talks to Lucas who is obviously drunk and angry with her. He makes a dig about Hanna and Sean's (Chuck Hittinger) relationship. Later, Sean is telling a story about him and Hanna and Lucas continues to make digs at Sean until Sean takes a swing for him. Noel breaks it up and Hanna asks to talk to Lucas outside. Hanna tries to get him to calm down but he flips out and admits he was the one who destroyed Alison's memorial. Hanna says she wont call the police and Lucas gets upset and tells her not to make him like her because it's too hard. Sean comes outside to check Lucas is gone and Hanna begins questioning him about Noel. Sean gets nervous and Hanna tells him to make everyone leave. After the party Hanna is clearing up when she hears footsteps and sees a shadow in the house. Panicking she tries to figure out what to do but then Ashley comes in. Realising there has been a party she goes to the cupboard to look for the money and finds it is missing.
Spencer's story
Spencer and Alex's (Diego Gonzalez Boneta) relationship is still in full swing as she quickly meets up with him while out with her mum. When Alex has gone, Spencer and her mum discuss Melissa's wedding. Mrs Hastings (Lesley Fera) says she is not thrilled but it's done now. While they are walking they see Toby (Keegan Allen) getting out of a car. Mrs Hastings says he's out on bail.
Alex meets Spencer after school and tells her he has been told to apply for a tennis clinic in Sweden. Spencer is excited but he says he won't go because he promised his uncle he would work for him. Spencer tries to persuade him it's a great opportunity but Alex said he would rather work and save for college.
At Hanna's party their earlier conversation seems to have been forgotten and they are getting on well, but after Spencer comes back from the bathroom Alex's mood has changed. He received email confirmation of his application to the Swedish tennis clinic and says that Spencer must have sent it as she was the only one who knew. Spencer tries to tell him that she didn't do it, but he doesn't believe her, stating that they are too different. She then receives a message from A saying "Point, Set ,Match".
Spencer tells Aria what happened and they again discuss whether or not Noel is A. Aria asks Spencer what they are prepared to do if they find out he is.
At home, Spencer's father (Nolan North) admits that he isn't keen on Ian being married to Melissa but says her mother hopes that he will inspire her to move on with her life. He then reveals that the blood found on Toby's sweater matches Alison's soToby probably wont be around much longer. As her dad goes to bed, Spencer notices a label on Ian's golf bag.
Another flashback shows the girls the day Ali went missing. Ali had just arrived back from a trip to her grandma's and while helping her with her bags, Spencer noticed the same label on the suitcases. Spencer asked her about it and Ali said that her grandma went there because she liked golf.
In real time, Spencer realises that Ian may have had much more of a hand in Alison's life, and possibly death, than anyone knew.
Emily's story
Things in the Fields' household have been tense since Emily admitted that she's gay. However, Mr and Mrs Fields make an effort and invite Maya over for dinner.
At school, Maya asks what she should wear to dinner and Emily gets annoyed when Maya makes a joke about looking butch in jeans.
At dinner, Maya seems to be getting on well with Mr Fields (Eric Steinberg) but when Mrs Fields (Nia Peeples) presents seafood, Maya turns it down as she is allergic to it. Mrs Fields is miffed because Emily said Maya would eat anything, and both girls apologise. Emily's mum is further displeased when Maya admits that her parents had two children before they got married. Emily is embarrassed and asks Maya to tell the story of how her dad proposed to her mum. When it turns out to be yet another story that Mrs Fields is unimpressed with, she starts drinking. Emily's dad however, likes the story and begins making jokes with Maya.
After the meal, Emily and Maya are kissing goodbye when Emily's mum comes out. She apologises for interrupting and gives Maya some food to take home for her parents.
When Maya has gone home, on the way to Hanna's Emily sees Toby sitting on his porch. She tells him that she wasn't the one who called the police on him but it seems like he doesn't believe her. He has a device attached to his ankle which prevents him from leaving the house and as Emily leaves, he pulls something out of his sock, it looks like a screwdriver. Toby then begins trying to smash the device. Jenna (Tammin Sursok) comes out and after a brief chat Jenna admits she called the police on him because she wanted him to be close to home to prove that he was not Ali's murderer. She tries to kiss him but Toby tells her that no matter what she does he will never touch her "that way" again and she slaps him.
Back at Emily's house later, her mum tells her that her dad has been called back to work and must be there by the end of the month. Emily thanks her for dinner and says she is glad she is okay with her and Maya. Her mum says she isn't and it makes her sickm leaving Emily worried and disappointed.
Aria's story
Aria finally tells Mr Fitz that Noel wrote the message on his car window but that he promised to forget about it. However, later Noel goes to Mr Fitz with his C graded paper and asks him to change the grade to an A, asking him whether he should get the principal involved. The subtext was very clear.
Aria goes to see Mr Fitz later to explain that she has to go to Hanna's party before going to his place, but he says she can't go at all and that Noel paid him a visit. Aria asks what happened, holding his hand but they are interrupted by Jenna asking Mr Fitz to sign her absence card. As she left she said, "Sorry to interrupt".
At Hanna's party, Aria approaches Noel and tells him that he can't break his promise not to tell by blackmailing Mr Fitz. Noel plays innocent and says that all he did was ask for him to take a second look at the paper. Aria seems confused and asks if he has some old grudge against her and her friends but he is called away by Sean.
Cliffhanger ending
At the end of the day, Hanna and her mum have little to say to each other. When Ashley (Laura Leighton) says she is going to get Hanna's bed ready, Hanna goes to take her tablets and finds a note inside the bottle saying, "You'll get your $$$ back if you do what I say. Sweet dreams. A". The end credit show gloved hands putting the money into a money box shaped like a clown.
It seems like the Pretty Little Liars plot is getting more and more confusing all the time! Both Ian and Melissa have been my top suspects for being Alison's killer for a long time, but I definitely can't rule out Noel now either. He is a very good looking boy but when he smiles, he now has a slight look of evil about him. It could be his freakishly white teeth, or the glint in his eye but he is beginning to freak me out!
My theory that Melissa is the murderer got a little bit ruined last week when she married Ian. If she knew Ian had been having a fling with her sister and her sister's best friend, there is no way she would have married him. Unless she plans to kill him off too. Hmm.
I still think Ali's murderer and "A" are two different people and I am still convinced that Jenna is not blind. But I cannot quite work out who is responsible for which thing. Looking forward to next week!
