Recap of 'Pretty Little Liars' Episode "Be Careful What U Wish 4"

Kyra Lennon
After last week's "Pretty Little Liars" ending, there was a lot for the girls to deal with in this week's episode entitled "Be Careful What U Wish 4". Spencer has to creep around Ian, Aria has to deal with someone swooping in on Mr Fitz, and so much more! Let's see what happened!

This week's "Pretty Little Liars" opens with the girls discussing what to do with the video they received of Ian (Ryan Merriman) murdering Ali (Sasha Pieterse), when Ian walks in while a shot of him is still on the open laptop. The girls all try to cover up their conversation while Spencer (Troian Bellisario) gets to the laptop and closes it so he can't see the screen. When he leaves, Emily (Shay Mitchell) says they need to take the video to the police immediately but the others question what they will tell the police about where it came from.

At school, Spencer looks nervous as she enters while Aria (Lucy Hale) and Emily are putting up decorations for the school dance. Spencer expresses concern that A is setting them up in some way and taking the laptop with the video on to the police might end up being worse for them. Emily reminds her that Toby Cavanuagh (Keegan Allen) is currently facing jail for a crime he didn't commit so they need to take the video to the police at lunchtime.

Aria gets surprised by a visit from her former babysitter, Simone. She is in town visiting her parents and also visiting Rosewood High to talk to the students about life after school. Aria is thrilled to see her, but not so thrilled when Ella (Holly Marie Combs) arranges a "date" for Simone with Mr Fitz (Ian Harding).

Emily is frustrated at not being able to talk to Maya (Bianca Lawson) while she is away at "character building" camp, but Hanna (Ashley Benson) suggests that the dodgy looking new kid at school will be able to help her. For cash, he has been upgrading phones to make them do all kinds of clever things. Emily is a little bit dubious but Hanna insists and Emily gives in.

When the girls finally get their lunch break, they are about to head to the police station when Hanna notices that Spencer's laptop is connected to the internet, even though it is in Spencer's bag which has been on her shoulder all day. When Spencer opens her bag, instead of her laptop, she finds a yearbook. The girls quickly realise that while Spencer was in gym class, Ian - who, if you remember, is now a gym teacher at Rosewood High, must have been in her locker and taken it out, meaning he knows about the video.

Emily chases down the new kid, Caleb (Tyler Blackburn), to see if he has fixed her phone yet. He happens to be quite cute, not that Emily would be interested though! Caleb says he isn't done with the phone yet so Emily offers him more cash which he accepts. He is rather mysterious, but tries to wrangle a "date" with Emily, which she declines and tells him he needs to get the phone sorted out.

Hanna desperately goes about trying to find herself a part time job. First she asks Sean (Chuck Hittinger) if his mother will re-hire her to work in the dentist, then she tries to gain employment at a clothes shop but is turned down because her mother owes money there. As she gets into Sean's car to go home, she receives a text message from A saying, "Wanna keep Mommy out of prison? I've got a job for you."

Later at the school dance, Emily spots Ian in his office locking his bag in his desk drawer. She tells her friends and they agree they need to get in there and see if they can retrieve Spencer's laptop.

Aria is surprised when Simone shows up at the school dance, saying that Mr Fitz mentioned he'd be there as a chaperone. There is clear panic that she might lose her man to a girl she has always looked up to. She is further miffed when she sees Simone and Mr Fitz getting on really well as she goes to the coat room on the pretence of getting something from her Dad's jacket, but successfully extracts Ian's keys which she then hands over to Spencer.

Caleb gives Emily back her phone, and Hanna gives him a hard time for over-charging her. The pair bicker for a while, then Hanna gets a message from A with her instructions for money earning. She is told to hurt Lucas' (Brendan Robinson)feelings by dancing with him - but she will get $200 for every dance. Against her better judgement, she causes a little bit of tension with Sean and asks Lucas for a dance. Five dances later, Sean begins to get annoyed and tells her she can't keep bringing him to school dances and ditching him. When her phone alerts her to a new message he tells her not to answer but she does and he storms off. Hanna's text message says if she keeps dancing with Lucas she will get $500 for each dance. After a short break, during which Emily tells Hanna she is acting just the way Alison did by leading Lucas on, A offers $1000 for a last dance with Lucas. In her desperation to get her mother's money back, she tells Sean she needs to dance with Lucas one more time, but instead of understanding, he breaks up with her.

While Spencer is frantically trying to unlock Ian's desk drawer, Caleb appears and asks if she needs some help. Spencer becomes flustered and says she hasn't got time to explain what she is doing. Caleb refuses to leave so she asks him how much it will cost to make him forget that he saw her - seemingly unaware that by paying him off, she would just be digging herself into another pit of lies and potential for blackmail. However, he refuses to take any money and Spencer hopes he will just keep his mouth shut.

After a phonecall with Maya, Emily begins to fear that her girlfriend may have already moved on, and she sneaks into the coatroom and takes Hanna's secret stash of alcohol. After getting completely smashed, she decides it's a good idea to tell Ian that she and her friends know what he did. Aria and Spencer attempt to take her outside but Ian makes Spencer stay. When he asks what Emily was talking about, Spencer lies and said that her friends know they kissed but that nobody else knows. Ian warns her that she better be telling the truth or someone will get hurt.

A little later, Hanna and Spencer try to get a very drunken Emily into Spencer's car to spend the night at Spencer's house. On the way out, Lucas offers to walk Hanna home but she declines, saying she needs to look after Emily. When Hanna puts her hand in her coat pocket, she finds her evening's earnings inside.

Aria finally gets the chance to talk to Mr Fitz and she asks why he isn't going home with Simone. She says that they look good together and they have lots in common and they could go out in public together. Mr Fitz tells her that he is already in love with someone else, and leans in to kiss her, but has to stop as they are in the school parking lot. However, Aria seems much happier afterwards.

After putting Emily in Spencer's bedroom, Hanna rejoins Spencer downstairs and finds Spencer's laptop on the coffee table. They realise Ian must have placed it there after Spencer left for the dance, and when they open it, the video has been erased. They then find another photo of Ali leaving Spencer's barn the night she disappeared. Underneath is written, "Watch your backs, I didn't.". Hanna and Spencer then notice a shadow lurking in the photo, as if someone was watching Ali is she left the barn.

The cliffhanger ending this week was quite fascinating! It showed Ella handing back people's coats at the dance. The shot showed her handing back a black jacket and the creepy black leather gloves we have seen so many times to a student we couldn't see!

This brings my suspicions right back to Lucas as being A. He is good with technology, he could easily work out how to send anonymous texts and emails. He had an obvious grudge against Ali and her friends and he trashed Ali's memorial. It is possible that he had a crush on Ali, but as she was so mean to him, he started to hate her. With Hanna looking so much like Ali, is it possible that Lucas saw her as a good target?

My theory is this - he may have wanted to hurt Hanna initially, but then he realised that she isn't evil the way Ali was. Perhaps his text messages telling her to ask him to dance were a test for him to see if she wanted the money more than she cared about his feelings?

I know it's a little bit "out there" but I think it has at least a small degree of possibility in it.

I am also deeply suspicious about Caleb. No TV show introduces a new character at this point for no reason. I don't know how he will be involved in what has already happened, or if he has been added to further the plot but it will be interesting to see what his role will be.

So, the "Pretty Little Liars" confusion continues! Perhaps next week will bring more clarity!
