Recap and Review of '˜Survivor Nicaragua' Week 9

Wendy Dawn
Following last week's tribal council on "Survival: Nicaragua" Marty and Jane were at odds with each other. Each was determined to see the other voted off in the next tribal council.

Marty rode Jane hard at tribal council last week, but rather than accomplishing anything he helped further endear Jane to the younger players.

Marty went back to camp and continued to be cocky and arrogant, but he was fighting for his life. He knew that with so many siding with Jane that he was a walking target. He approached Dan and Benry immediately to sway them against Jane.

Jane knew what he was up to and said she would like to "take him to the woodshed and whip his a@#!

"Survivor: Nicaragua" - Challenge 1 Recap, episode 9

In the first challenge contestants had to make their way through an obstacle course of straw, wood, and brick, scale netting, and crawl under ropes to get to three keys, open three locks and raise their team's flag first.

The reward was a zip-line tour of the jungle, but most importantly to the hungry players the winners would be treated to a huge barbeque.

The challenge ended up as men verses women, and they all wanted the reward.

Chase was chosen to sit out of the game and given a choice of who to side with. He picked the women, which turned out to be a poor decision on his part.

The women had more trouble breaking through the barriers of sticks and bricks than the men. The men easily won the challenge. They enjoyed a day of zipping over the jungle of Nicaragua, but most off all they enjoyed a feast.

Marty continued to try and manipulate the game and used the day with the guys to convince them to follow his plan. He wanted NaOnka to think she was being voted off, forcing her to play her hidden immunity idol, and then ambush Jane.

Sash played along with Marty, but his alliance remained with Brenda. Sash and Brenda are the ones calling the shots in "Survivor: Nicaragua," regardless of what Marty thinks.

Brenda played it cool, but again, she and Sash are the two major players at this point. She plays her cards close to the chest, unlike Chase, Marty, Brenda, and Jud who run around telling everyone every little thing.

Brenda didn't even like Marty thinking he called the shots, but she was willing to follow the plan - so she said.

"Survivor: Nicaragua" - Challenge 2 Recap, episode 9

The second challenge was a battle for immunity.

There would only be one winner of the immunity challenge. It was a memory task in which the contestants were shown symbols which they had to repeat to Jeff in the correct order. Those who got the order correct would advance to the next round.

Jane and NaOnka were the first two out of the challenge. They were quickly followed by Dan, Holly, Kelly, and Sash.

In the second round of the challenge Jud (Fabio) was the first one out, followed by Chase.

The last three in the challenge were Marty, Brenda, and Benry. Benry was quickly out of the challenge, leaving Marty and Brenda to battle it out. They only went one step further in the competition before Marty lost immunity to Brenda.

Brenda had a cheering section when she beat Marty for individual immunity. She was in no danger of being voted out, but holding personal immunity never hurts in this game. Winning this challenge was just one more powerful play from Brenda in the game of "Survivor: Nicaragua."

Back at Camp - Round 2 - "Survivor: Nicaragua" Recap

Benry and Jud (Fabio) totally bought into Marty's plan. They wanted to flush NaOnka's hidden immunity idol and vote Jane off. By the time they were back to camp, it appeared Marty had everyone convinced to vote for NaOnka to flush the idol and then blindside Jane.

Sash and Brenda agreed with Marty, but they were playing him like a fiddle.

If things went as Marty planned tribal council was going to be a huge blow to Jane.

Tribal Council - "Survivor: Nicaragua" episode 9 Recap

It was obvious at tribal council that NaOnka and Jane had targets on their back. Marty had already said all he had to say about Jane, so he spoke up and lit into NaOnka at tribal council.

NaOnka fought back. She wasn't making much sense, but she went on and on about the guys ganging up on her and how they could never get past her stealing the flour last week.

Fabio sat back and continued to play dumb, which seems to be working well for him.

The crazy thing is that Dan is not even playing the game. All he has to do is just sit back week after week while the players pound on each other.

Before the votes were counted Jeff gave his ritual opportunity for anyone to play an immunity idol. Unbelievably, NaOnka did not play her hidden immunity idol.

Interestingly, Marty never confronted Sash to get the immunity idol back that he turned over two episodes earlier. Sash had promised to return it.

No one followed Marty's plan.

Marty was voted off. His big mouth earned him too many enemies.

After the vote, no one knew who they could trust because no one voted the way that they said they would.
