Recent Letter Bombings Continue

Can They Be Connected to Terrorism?

rh
Recently a series of terrorist attacks have been taking place in the United Kingdom in the form of letter bombs, although they haven't officially been recognized as terrorist acts. So far there have been seven incidents, with each letter being mailed to a company or agency related to DNA testing or road transport.

Police have reported that some of the letters have been handwritten while others have been typed, and all of the letters have been sent in A5 style envelopes.

It has also been reported that the aim of the letter bombs is to shock and not to kill because the letters contained pyrotechnic charges and not conventional explosives.

January 18th, 2007

The Forensic Science Service in Chelmsley Wood, Orchid Cellmark in Abingdon, and LGC Forensics in Culham all received a letter containing a device. Animal rights activists are suspected for these three incidents because the name "Barry Horne" was written on the back of one of those envelopes. Barry Horne was an animal rights extremist who waged a firebombing campaign in Bristol and was serving an 18-year jail sentence when he died in 2001 of liver failure.

The letters following this day's events seems unrelated because they mainly target companies and agencies that deal with road fines and police believe that these events may possibly involve a militant motorist.

February 3rd, 2007

A device was received at a private house in Folkstone, Kent. One man suffered minor injuries to his hands, face and stomach. The envelope was addressed to the senior manager of a security company who had previously been resolved, and had operated from that address.

February 5th, 2007

One woman has received minor injuries to her hands and stomach after a letter bomb was received at the Capita Centre in Victoria, London. The Capita Centre deals with Congestion Charge, which is when there is a charge for using streets and roads.

February 6th, 2007

A device was received at the accountancy firm Vantis plc, in Berkshire. It was reported in the media that they were linked to dealing with road speeding fines although they deny this. Two men received minor injuries, but were not hospitalized.

February 7th, 2007

A letter bomb was received at the main DVLA centre in Swansea, south Wales. Four people were brought to Morriston Hospital in Swansea.

The question now is, is this a series of unrelated events or is there a much bigger plot here and if so, who is behind it and who will be the next victim(s)?
