Recession

John W Fenn
Peregrine Montmorency found out to his cost

That all of his investments and money had been lost

He spoke to his advisors about the markets fall

They told him he was broke, and that they had lost it all

They spoke about the credit crunch and then the credit freeze

Mentioned the recession, and what he owed in fees

Then the notice of redundancy arrived upon his mat

Meant he couldn't pay the bills or mortgage on his flat

He'd lost his only income and his savings were all spent

Without a job or money, couldn't find a place to rent

His one time friends abandoned him, in his hour of need

He was destitute and homeless, his pleas they did not heed

Now you'll find him in a town near you, on the corner of the street

Begging for some money, for a drink and food to eat

So if you're in the city and the homeless folk you see

Think, but for the grace of God that could be you or me
