Recession Proof Jobs

The stock market just dropped once again and you were told by your boss that they are going to have to lay you off while their company is just not doing that great during this harmful economic time. Of course you are entitled to go file unemployment and gain benefits from their and a paycheck each week, but if you have a family at home $300 a week is not going to cut it especially if you are use to bringing in twice as much or even more a week. You need to figure out what your next move can be and that can truly be difficult when you don't know what jobs are out there with a good line of security. I am here to lend you some advice I have searched for during this time. My husbands hours were cut back at work and I needed to face the fact that I had to try to find a way to bring in extra cash for us to make ends meet. When I was searching the Internet I came across jobs that in my own mind thought were pretty secure when it came to layoffs and now I am going to lend you my knowledge and help you get on track to a new career. First before I go and let you in on what I have found I want you to also know that these jobs may not be your dream job and you may not enjoy them to the fullest, but they are jobs that are going to be around no matter how hard the economy suffers. To be honest isn't that what is the most important, trying to find a stable, secure job to make your financial ends meet no matter what the job may be, as long as it pays the bills!

Mortician

Yes, I am going to start with the worst job out there. I say it's the worst because who really wants to work with the dead, but the harsh fact is, there is always going to be people who die. It is a natural way of life and Morticians are in big demand because people do not want to do this line of work. Understandable, but like I said it's a guarantee that this job will ALWAYS be around and there is a positive to this job, at it may sound morbid but at least you won't have to worry about the client back talking you.

First contact a local funeral home and ask if you could please come in to get some information on what a Morticians job entails. Once you in the interviewing process with the funeral home director make sure you get a strong outline on what they do on a daily basis. If this sounds like something you may could stomach then the second step is yours for the taking.

Click on over to the National Funeral Director's Association website, www.nfda.org, and check out all the requirements for your state when it comes to achieving your Morticians license. Some states will require you to achieve a four year college degree and others may only ask for you to have a high school education and training.

If you are in a state that requires a four year degree then apply to any accredited colleges that the NFDA website gives and start your education process. If your state only requires the training and high school education, and you have both of those then you are good to go. Start contacting all the local funeral homes to find out how to apply for a job. If you have the high school education but no training then you can contact any funeral home locally and ask them what their requirements would be to train at their facility.

Health Care

On the flip side of people dying their will always be a need for nurses when it comes to helping the sick back to help. There are 3 different types of nurse fields that you can go into, CNA, LPN, and RN. The lowest field will be CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant). CNA's are what they call in the health care field the go getters. They are the ones who have to do the most in their jobs like clean up messes, administer medicine, check blood pressure, and constantly wait on patients. They are also the lowest paid nurses out there. The last time I checked in my own town a CNA made only around 8 to 10 dollars an hour. Now the flip side to this is you can become a CNA faster then any other nurses position and start working right away.

Next will be an LPN (License Practical Nurse) and you will be a step up from CNA, but still working under the RN's. Your job requirements can be, but not limited to, taking vital signs, gathering information, preparing and delivering injections, assist CNA's during patient hygiene tasks, collect lab samples and possibly do minor lab tests. When I was searching this job, the school in my state that offered the educational material for obtaining this job was only going to be about a two year associated program. The starting pay in my area for this job is around 16 dollars an hour, but I am from a small town and this number can vary dramatically all throughout the united states.

The last Nursing job is your RN (Registered Nurse). This is the mecca of all nursing jobs. Talk about being on top. This job requires a four year college degree in most states. Takes a little longer time then the other two, however you are on top when it comes to nursing. You have the ability to hand off the jobs to other nurses below you, however no matter what job you make others do you are the one who has to answer for the rest of the nurses which means this job has a lot more responsibility with it. Some of the major tasks that come with this job are (and again never limited too) observing and recording all the patient medical history and their symptoms, finding a good plan for patients health care, adding a new plan for patients health care and implementing all those plans. In my area this job starts out at 21 dollars and hour. However, like I said with the LPN's job pay, this amount can range differently throughout the United States.

To obtain employment in any one of these three fields then you need to contact your Board of Health. Obtain any and all informational requirements when it comes to educational needs with these jobs. After you have fully understand what educational requirements are for the nursing job you want, contact any local school, or any accredited on-line school to start your study. Another great fact to helping you gain faster employment into these fields is while you are going to school to get your education for these jobs, volunteer at a local hospital, nursing home, or health care facility to get your foot in the door. Do this on your down time and hopefully this will show future employers that you mean business when it comes to achieving a job there.

Teachers

Now, up until about a week ago, I would say this job is big time security. We will always need teachers no matter how bad the economy is getting, however after listening to different radio stations and news reports I have started to hear that some states are starting to layoff teachers in their counties because they can not meet the budget requirements. Ouch, however I still think this job position can be secure if you know what type of teacher is the best one to get! First I want to talk to you about becoming a Substitute.

At the beginning of this article I told you I had to go out and seek employment after my husbands hours were cut at work. I wanted to still be able to be at home for my children and not worry about weekend or night work, but still needed extra cash. I decided to look into Substituting because the factors for me out weighed all other jobs.

First I contacted my local Board of Education and asked them how I could become a Substitute teacher. In my town (and this may vary in yours) I had to come in and fill out all the application paper work. After they reviewed my application they called me in to get fingerprinted for security purposes. After I passed the fingerprinting I came back in for a Substitutes workshop which was about a four hour lecture on the job requirements a Sub is suppose to preform. Most of those requirements were basic common sense things like keeping the kids in order while the teacher is away and administering any work the absent teacher has left for you to do. This process from start to finish only took about a month. A week after the workshop a new list of names of all the new Subs went out to all the schools in my town. Less then a week after that list went out I was called to come in and also have a couple other days already lined up within the next upcoming weeks.

The pay for my area if you are going to be a Substitute is $50 a day for any person who only obtains their high school diploma's or GED's, $60 a day for any one with a four year college degree or any college background, $70 a day for anyone who obtains a degree in education, and $100 a day for retired teachers. These numbers will vary state by state. Not too bad if you get called at least two to three times a week, but that is where the draw back happens. Most Substitute teachers will hardly ever be called because you are not in an everyday demand, however I learned something from the workshop that has helped me in getting a few calls in less then 2 weeks of becoming a Sub. Contact each school in your local area that the list has been sent out to. Do not just call them, but go into each school and ask to speak with the Sub-Contact person. Introduce yourself, confirm the phone number you have and give them a face to put with your name. More times then none, the Sub-Contact person will highlight your name and this will allow them to have a better understanding who really wants to work!

The next couple jobs I am going to talk about in the field of Teaching (educational) are ones the board of education told me about that is in high demand in my area and state. Now of course these jobs may not be in demand in your local area, so I advise you first to contact your local Board of Education to find out which teaching jobs are in greater demand.

Science and Math Teachers and Special Education Teachers are lacking in my area due to the fact most adults are going into Early Childhood education. The lady at the Board of Education told me that these jobs are in great numbers and ready for the taking as long as I had my Education Degree. Of course I did not, however she did tell me how to obtain the necessary requirements to achieve the degree. Contact a school of my choice, preferably local, and get all the requirements to obtain my four year degree in Education. Talk with a school adviser on what I would also need to teach in the fields of science, math or special education. Most schools will allow you, if you have previously taken college courses, to take an exam to expert you from your basic college classes, that is if you pass those test, if you don't then you will have to make sure you do take all your basic educational classes to start off with. However, this may sound like a lot to do, these teachers I know are in big demand in the South and pay I know in my area is around $30,000 a year if not more. It may be more in yours.

I have now given you about 8 jobs in three different job fields that are, in my eyes, recession proof. I am not an expert because if I was then I wouldn't be making the big bucks, but these are jobs that have caught my attention while I was searching them on-line. I advise each one of you to please search for your own information before taking my word as the final word. There could possibly be more recession proof jobs out there, however these are the main ones I think would be easily obtainable by any one person.
