Caparinhas are a delicious alcoholic beverage that is drunken at all times of day in Brazil. Stands on the street even sell this drink to people walking by. When I first tasted them they reminded me of a margarita but less salty and more refreshing. My friend thought they tasted like a non-mint mojito.
When I returned from Brazil, I had to figure out the best recipe for a homemade caparinha and I finally got it.
Jenna's best Caparinha
This recipe serves four
Ingredients:
2 limes
2 tablespoons lime juice
16 teaspoons of sugar
16 ounces Cachacha (a light Brazilian rum that can be found in most liquor stores)
ice
Rinse the limes. Roll the limes to loosen the juice. Cut each lime into eight pieces and put four pieces in each of four glasses. Sprinkle one teaspoon of sugar on each piece and let sit for one minute. With a pestol or mallet mash the lime pieces pulp side up. Add rum , lime juice, then lots of ice. Enjoy!

Post a CommentI'd recommend Leblon Cachaca. Cachaca is not actually a rum. It does not let the sugar cane turn into molasses. Leblon is aged in cognac barrels and has a wonderful smooth taste! You can also use simple syrup if you don't like the grainyness of the sugar. Also, try adding in some strawberries, watermelon, mangos during the season for variety!
Don't much like rum, but have to admit this sounds good.

I just got home from a vacation where I had my first mojito. If this is anything like that - I'll give it a try!
Hmm, it sounds really sweet. I'd still like to try it though! :-)
