On the day before Thanksgiving, pie crusts will be mixed and rolled out in kitchens all across the United States. The rolled out pie dough will then get draped into pie plates for trimming. As these pie doughs are trimmed, excess dough will be sheared off the edges of the plate awaiting the fate of being tossed away into the garbage along with the extra flour that was used to keep dough from sticking to rolling pins and counter tops.

When you are holding that excess pie dough in your hands think about how that pie dough can be transformed into a Thanksgiving dessert. Here is a Thanksgiving dessert recipe that uses extra pie dough as the main ingredient

Recipe to Make Leftover Pie Buttery Cinnamon Rollups:
Preheat your oven to 350 Degrees

1. Roll out the leftover pie dough as if you were making a regular pie crust into rectangular shape.

2. Place dabs of light butter on the leftover pie crust rectangle.

3. Sprinkle a generous amount of cinnamon and sugar onto the leftover pie crust.

4. For extra variation you can also sprinkle finely chopped pecans, walnuts, or brown sugar onto the leftover pie crust..

5. Roll the leftover pie dough up so that it forms a long cylinder.

6. Cut the rolled up leftover pie dough cylinder into 1/4 inch pieces so that each individual pieces forms a spiral.

Lay out the pie dough spirals out on a greased cookie sheet. If you want to add a little more crispness to the finished Thanksgiving dessert, then add a little dab of butter to each spiral. Place the cookie sheet into the oven at 350 degrees and bake for about 20 minutes. Toward the end of the cooking time, you may need to check to make sure the Buttery Cinnamon Crusty Spirals do not burn.

When they are done, remove the mini spirals from the oven and arrange the Buttery Cinnamon Crusty Spirals on a plate for serving. This Thanksgiving dessert tastes best when the crusty spirals have an just pulled from the oven fresh warmth. You can serve these treats as a part of your Thanksgiving dinner or as a pre-Thanksgiving indulgence as you are preparing your Thanksgiving Day pies on the day before the big turkey dinner.

Just like your Grandmother used to make. The addition of optional chopped nuts/brown sugar is a good idea!
