Recipe for Long, Happy Life

Biblical Perspective for Attaining Happy, Successful Life

Joey Liam
You can attain a long and happy life here on earth, one that is filled with success and contentment. And the recipe for that enduring and wonderful life is not really that complicated. All you do is commit yourself to God and to your parents in the Lord. Obedience to the Almighty Creator and to your loving parents is the key to ensure that you will enjoy a long, meaningful life at present.

"Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart" (Ps. 37:4, KJV).

If you make your service to God your main priority in life, many wonderful things will happen. Your heart's desires will come to fruition and you will be blessed with the Lord's abundant grace. But how will you show God that you delight in Him? The best way to show your delight in the Lord is by subjecting yourself completely to His laws or commandments, which is defined in the Bible as "the whole duty of man" (Eccl. 12:13). And one of the most important instructions the Lord has given His faithful servants is recorded in Eph. 6:1-3:

"Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth."

You partly owe your parents your existence in this world; hence, it is only appropriate and right to obey and honor them. Your parents will not advise you to do something that is detrimental to your well-being in the first place. Yes, there are parents who seem to care less about their offspring - they are truly not the ones mentioned in the Bible to be honored and obeyed by their children. How can you obey your parents when they tell you to sell drugs out in the street so they can have money to use for their gambling and other carnal vices? Will you honor your parents when they turn you into a prostitute just to satisfy their debts to their immoral friends? Sadly, there are parents in this world who have no respect and concern for their children and if you analyze their way of living, it is one that is filled with miseries and pains.

Remember the recipe: commitment to God and obedience to your parents. Utilize these simple ingredients and you will appreciate even more God's best gift to one and all-a long and happy life.

This is a lovely, sublime piece of writing. I have good parents, and I still listen to them at the age of 57. :)
