Recipe for Oat Bread

Dena E. Bolton
This bread can be made in one hour -- from start to finish -- and is a great recipe for people, like myself, who don't bake.

Ingredients

Serves 4
2 cups Whole wheat flour
1 cup Oat bran
1 cup Rolled oats
1/4 cup Raisins
1 tablespoon Baking powder
2 cups Buttermilk

Directions for Recipe for Oat Bread

1
Combine
Mix together the flour, oat bran, rolled oats, raisins, and baking powder in a large bowl.
2
Add
Pour in the buttermilk and use a large rubber spatula to mix. If the dough becomes too stiff, you can flour your hands and mix by hand.
3
Shape
Shape the dough into a loaf about 7 inches in diameter. Smooth the top and sides.
4
Prepare for baking
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the loaf on it and, using a sharp knife, cut an "X" about 1/4-inch deep into the top of the loaf. (Note: If any raisins are visible, just poke them back into the loar so they will not burn.)
5
Bake
Sprinkle a little flour on top of the loaf and a bake at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes or until the bottom of the loaf sounds hollow when tapped. Allow the loaf to cool completely before slicing.
Tip
You can also add some nuts, such as walnuts, to this recipe if you desire.
