Recipe for Spam Musubi

A Fun Hawaiian Favorite!

Marie Yongue
Spam Musubi is a favorite snack among Hawaiians. Find it in Hawaiian delis, supermarkets, and in tons of Hawaiian homes!

You will need:

1 can uncooked spam

2 - 3 cups uncooked sushi rice

Furikake

4 to 5 sheets of nori (sushi wraps)

Sugar

Soy sauce

Vinegar

Step 1: Cut the nori sheets lengthwise in half and lay out in a row.

Step 2: Start your pot of rice - or throw it in a rice cooker - and let it cook while you are preparing the rest of the musubi. Make sure to keep an eye on it.

Step 3: Cut your spam into anywhere from 7 to 10 pieces (depending on how thick you want the meat in your musubi to be.)

Step 4: Lightly season the spam with a tiny bit of soy sauce and sugar for flavor (to your liking) and heat in a frying pan over a medium flame. Fry until spam turns light brown on both sides.

Step 5: Now head back over to your nori sheets. Take a scoop of rice (about the size of a piece of spam) and place it in the middle of a sheet.

Step 6: Shake some furikake over the rice and place a piece of spam on top.

Step 7: Complete the musubi by patting on another layer of sticky rice and closing the nori wrap. Dab some water on the two connecting ends to close and enjoy!
