Reclaim Your Linen Closet Space
1. Start fresh-Clean out everything so you can actually see the back of your closet. Be picky and decide what you want to keep. Pack up items that have not been touched for the last six months and donate. Chances are you don't need them. Remember to get a receipt and claim it on your income tax return.
2. Top shelves-Store seasonal items such as flannel, comforter, extra pillows, and blankets that you don't use daily. Keep them labeled in clear containers for easy to locate. If you own a compressed vacuum, use it to reduce your items to about a quarter of their original size.
3. Eye level shelves-Keep items that you use daily at eye level for easy reach. These items are toothpaste, tooth brushes, hair spray, medicines, and personal hygiene products. Keep similar items in their own baskets to maintain organization.
4. Lower shelves-Store bedding items, sheets, pillow cases, fitted sheets, and towels. Group similar items together. Suggesting number for each bed is two sets, unless you live in cold weather areas, add two flannel sheet sets for each bedroom. For towels, each female should have four per week; each male should have two per week, and some extra towels for guess.
5. Bottom shelves-Keep all your cleaning supplies on the bottom of your closet. If you store them in containers that are easy to pull in and out, it would be better for everyone to retain organized.
Many people have suggested keeping cleaning supplies on the top shelf, but personally, it may do more harm than good. The cleaning supplies will be pushed all the way back, you may have to reach, or use stool to assist you, and spilling of chemical are only a few examples. If you are worry about children and pets getting into the supplies, then install a child safety lock device.
Now that the linen closet is neat, fresh, and arranged; keeps it looking good by spending a little time each week to straight out items. Not only you won't be overwhelmed with too many things, you also feel less discouraged when it's time to clean up.
