Volunteers Read Books for Blind and Dyslexic Students

Peggy Hazelwood
Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic (RFB&D) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing reading opportunities to students. The main emphasis is to help blind students and learning disabled students who cannot read in the traditional way.

From the RFB&D Web site:

Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D) is a national nonprofit with the largest accessible audio textbook library in the nation. We promote personal achievement by advancing the use of accessible and effective educational solutions when access and/or reading are barriers to learning.

The organization's annual Record-A-Thon is being held this week at studios across the country. RFB&D's RAT (Record-A-Thon) theme this year is Dr. Seuss, whose birthday is March 2.

The RAT event is held each year to raise funds for nonprofit organization, increase awareness of the organization, and to recruit volunteers. Volunteers read textbooks and other printed books that are made available to qualified students nationwide who cannot read them on their own for a variety of reasons.
