Recording Memories During Pregnancy

Vanessa Bartlemus
During pregnancy, there are so many changes going on within your body and within your life...and it's a good idea to record the feelings you're having during this time. It's also nice to record major milestones that occur. You'll want to look back on how your pregnancy went, and chances are the baby would love to see how his or her time in the womb went! There are several ways you can preserve the things you are going through in pregnancy. Here are some of the most popular ways to record your pregnancy memories.

Pregnancy Journal

A pregnancy journal is a great way to record your thoughts and feelings during your pregnancy. Buy a nice journal notebook, one that matches your personality. Fill it with your thoughts and feelings throughout your pregnancy, as well as with how your appointments are going and your hopes and dreams for your baby-to-be. You may like it so much that you continue journaling once your baby is born! I still write in a journal for my 2 year old. I write about the things going on in our life, cute things she does and says, and milestones in her life. For some ideas on how to structure your journal and ideas on what to include in your pregnancy journal, see this article.

Pregnancy Planner

This may also be known as a pregnancy journal, but is different than the kind discussed above in that it's a pre-printed journal that has spaces for you to record different aspects of your pregnancy. They may be organized by days or weeks, or organized in different sections (such as appointments, planning for baby, etc.) They will usually have spaces for you to record how you're feeling, any questions you may have that you want to remember to ask your health care provider, and checklists of things you'll need to have prepared before the baby gets here.

Pregnancy Calendar

A pregnancy calendar is a blank calendar which you fill out with dates starting from when you first conceived until the month you give birth. Most include stickers with major pregnancy events and milestones (such as 'positive pregnancy test', 'it's a girl!' or 'it's a boy!' and,' first kick') and some also include feelings stickers (such as 'feeling nauseous', 'getting excited', and 'feeling tired'). Many also include spaces which you can fill out with that month's doctor appointment statistics, such as weight gained, baby's heart rate, and the results of any tests you had.

Memory Box

These are especially great for saving things after the baby gets here (like saving the hospital bracelets, a lock of hair from your baby's first haircut, etc.) But you can definitely start from before the baby comes! You can fill the box with ultrasound pictures, cards from your baby shower, and even your positive pregnancy test if you want to!
