In this little Mecca they are most know for water sports of all varieties, scuba diving, jet skiing, water skiing, canoeing, and even white water rafting. You can also rent boats, ride the ferry, or go swimming just depending on your choice for the day. Due to the water that surround everything in this part of New York it also influences the restaurants in the area. There are several delicious seafood places such as Capt's Landing, Clipper Inn, and Sackets Harbor. There are also Italian restaurants and small café's scattered through Watertown if you feel like sitting down and just watching the locals. Café Mira in Adams, NY is a great local hangout with lots of ambience and sits on a beautiful street allowing you to just relax with your coffee.
For entertainment there is an abundance of fun to be had other than water sports. One of the best things is Bay Drive In Theatre; almost no one has kept up the old drive ins of times past but here in Watertown they have. They have current flicks playing every day of the year and you can go and park and watch a double feature. The prices are to die for at 5.00 dollars a ticket for adults and 2.00 dollars for kids under 11. The movies start right after sunset and it a great way for the family to hang out together.
Another interesting and fun activity for families is the Sci Tech Center in Watertown, NY. This is a hand on experience for children and adults. There are experiments and exhibits for everyone. It covers of 3,600 sq feet with wonders for children to play with and learn from.
For just adults you can visit a rather unique and local Tavern called the Paddock club. There is music, great martinis, and candlelight. This can be for a great date night while roaming Watertown, or good food for an afternoon lunch. Coleman's Corner is also extremely popular and very down to earth. The food is delicious and the people are always friendly.
Watertown, NY is a great place to visit even if you are from New York yourself. It is a small town getaway with a lot of charm and great shopping. It also has such a large amount of recreational activities that it keeps everyone in the family happy.
