Are you looking for recreation in West Texas? If so, Lubbock, TX is the place to go. Mackenzie State Park and Buffalo Springs Lake are two great places to go for recreation and relaxation.

MACKENZIE STATE PARK

Mackenzie State Park, located at 301 I-27, has newly paved roads, new picnic tables, playgrounds and restroom facilities. Other attractions located within the park include the American Wind Power Center and Museum, Meadowbrook Golf Course and Joyland Amusement Park.

American Wind Power Center and Museum, located at 1701 Canyon Lake Drive, has American Style water pumping windmills and related machinery and also offers exhibits on wind electric.

Meadowbrook Golf Course, located at 601 Municipal Drive, has some of the most beautiful scenery in historic Lubbock, TX. In Yellow House Canyon, it features groves of elm trees, flowing creeks and rolling terrain. It was originally an 18 hole golf course that was built by W.G. McMillan Sr. In the early 1930's. It later expanded to 36 holes.

Original Meadowbrook is now known as the Canyon Course and the newer layout is known as the Creek Course. Both are 18 hole championship golf courses providing a challenge for golfers of all abilities. Meadowbrook also has a large grass driving range and an oversized practice green. It offers the best practice facilities in West Texas.

Hungry? Meadowbrooks grill room offers delicious sandwiches and beverages. They also offer Satellite TV so you can relax and watch your favorite sporting event.

Joyland Amusement Park is located in the Heart of Mackenzie State Park. It offers over 30 great rides and attractions. They range form water caster and roller coasters to junior rides and family classics such as the carousel, food favorites, exciting fun games and group outing facilities. It is a great place for family, friends and co-workers to share fun times and create lasting memories.

BUFFALO SPRING LAKE

Buffalo Springs Lake, located 5 miles east of loop 289 on east 50th Street, is a natural spring-fed oasis nestled in beautiful Yellow House Canyon on one of the Forks of the Brazos River.

Buffalo Springs Lake offers one of the finest camping facilities. It offers cool, quiet seclusion with full hookups, hot showers and clean restrooms at reasonable rates. Other recreation includes the Nationally Famous Horseshoe pits and volleyball courts. The Audubon Society Nature Trail is great for bird watchers. There are picnic areas right beside the lake that are highlighted with abundant shade and clean facilities. There is also swimming available in clean, refreshing water and concrete boat ramps for watercrafts.
