Recycle Your Old Clothes

Danny Crum
Looking for ways to save money? A couple of great ways to save money are processes that hundreds of people have already been using for years. The old fashioned terms are "hand me downs" and "thrift store shopping," but it's not as bad as it sounds.

If you have multiple children especially the same sex save those clothes for future use! Newborns grow out of clothes so quick it's pointless to spend a lot of money on new clothing, but save the clothes you do buy. If you plan to have multiple children there is no point in buying new socks, shoes, onesies, undershirts, pajamas, etc. Save them for the next little one and keep your cash. The younger children are the easier it is to recycle clothes. Until they start school they will never know the difference. You will probably be able to get away with "hand me downs" even longer if they are wearing their older siblings "cool clothes".

Thrift stores are now called consignment shops and offer a great selection of slightly used or even new clothes. There are consignment stores for all ages from infant to adult. Since most consignment stores only purchase slightly used, popular brand clothing they are quickly becoming a popular trend even among teenagers.

Consignment stores also offer a buyback system where you can sell your gently used, name brand clothes back to them for cash or store credit. Taking store credit is a much better deal because not only do you get more from your clothes, but you have the opportunity to shop for more deals at the store. My wife used consignment shops throughout her pregnancy as well. She bought 85% of her maternity clothes from consignment shops. After she was finished with them she took them back to the consignment shop and got store credit to purchase more clothes.

Other great opportunities exist at yard sales or garage sales. If you are lucky you will find name brand clothing for pennies on the dollar. Many people who have yard sales are just trying to clean out their closet and at the end of the day will practically give away used clothes. If you are the online shopper don't forget about eBay, Craigslist and Amazon.

So, next time you are ready to purchase new clothes from a retail store, think twice. There are many ways to save money by purchasing recycled clothes!
