Recycle, Reuse: Recycling TV's

Recycling Electronics, Including TV's

Nancy P. Goodman, in Tennessee
We recently had an old TV to go kaput, and bought a new one. But we had a monster of an old TV to get rid of.....what to do with it? Too big and heavy to put out to the curb for the trash man and they probably would not take it anyway. And our county does not have a 'Recycling Center' for things like TV's. So I got online and started searching for 'recycling electronics', 'electronics recycling', and 'recycle TV'.

I found at BestBuy.com the following recycling information for recycling electronics including recycling TV's:

Best Buy stores will recycle: TVs, DVD players, computer monitors, cell phones and more. As stated on their web site: "You can bring in up to two items a day, per household, and most things are absolutely free. However, there is a $10 charge for TVs 32" and under, CRTs, monitors and laptops - but we'll give you a $10 Best Buy gift card to offset that cost."

It was easy to recycle the old monster of a TV...

  1. Load it on my truck (that was the hard part)
  2. Pull up to the door of the Best Buy Store,
  3. Ask the folks inside to send someone with a 'dolly' outside to help unload the TV,
  4. Go to customer service,
  5. Tell them I need to recycle a TV,
  6. Pay them $10 (it was under 32 inches) and
  7. Receive a $10 Best Buy gift card

Mission accomplished without a lot of hassle! I like things that are easy!
