Recycle Scrap Metal: Boost Your Income and Help Save the Environment

I don't know about you but I can always use extra money. One way that I have found to get it is the sale of scrap metals, not only aluminum cans but also steel, copper, brass, cast iron cast aluminum and a few others.
To do this you need a pickup, or trailer, a source of metals, & access to a phone & phone book.

I had always thought that "junk yards or scrap metal yards" only dealt with large factories, machine shops etc.
This is not so, they will also buy from individuals. The metal price will vary so you should call & check that day's price.

Currently in my area the prices are as follows: Long Steel ( Anything over 3 ft in length) $6.50 per 100 lbs/ Short Steel
(Anything 3ft & less) $7.00 per 100lbs/ Aluminum Cans .60 cents per lb, Extruded Aluminum .77 cents per pound, Cast Aluminum & Old Sheet Aluminum .55 cents per pound.

Other metal prices vary according to that days list price.
With good sources for metal & a little work you can gross $35.00 to $200.00 or more per visit.

Sources could include you and anyone you can get to saving aluminum cans. Body Shops will often allow you to carry away discarded car parts, as will car dealers. Brake & Muffler shops will sometimes give you the parts they remove/replace. Farmers clearing old junk out of their fields. Old appliances etc. put out for disposal on the road side.

Metals have to be separated by type & cleaned to get the most cash for their sale. I will be writing a future article about how to do that. The collection & sale of scrap metal has added significantly to my income,$73.00 just yesterday for about 2 hours work. It can add to your income as well. By selling scrap metal you also help the environment by reducing the amount of mining that is done to make the products you use every day.

You also create jobs for the people who melt & refine the used metal into ingots and more jobs for the people who take the refined ingots then make the into new cars, cans, appliances the sale of this scrap metals is a win win scenario, You win with the money you've made, the environment wins with less stress on it, finally the economy wins due to the jobs created.
