Recycled Tin Can Halloween Treat Cups

Eco-Friendly Halloween Crafts

Instead of buying bags and treat cups for Halloween candy, have a greener holiday with these eco-friendly recycled tin can treat cups. For a few weeks before Halloween, save tin cans as you cook dinner. Remove the labels, wash the tin cans, and file off any sharp edges. Place a strip of duct tape around the cut edge to prevent accidental cuts.

Choose whether to make a Halloween treat cup shaped like a spooky bat or black cat. Paint the recycled, clean tin cans with a generous layer of black paint inside and out. Set the recycled can Halloween treat cups aside to dry.

For both the bat and cat Halloween treat cups you will need to cut extra shapes from recycled paper or paper plates. Keep the craft eco-friendly by looking for materials you already have in the home to complete this Halloween craft. Black construction paper, thin poster board or paper plates can all be used for wings or cat ears. For a bat-shaped Halloween treat cup, cut a clean paper plate in half to make two semi-circles. Paint or color both sides of the semi-circles black. Use scissors to cut scallops into the straight edge of each piece.

Next, place the two recycled paper plate craft bat wings horizontally on the back of the tin can. They will overlap and stick out on either edge.

Use recycled materials from around your home like buttons and string or leftover craft materials like googley eyes, sequins and pipe cleaners to decorate the front of the recycled tin can craft. Be creative to make a Halloween bat face. Cut two small triangles for the bat's ears and glue them to the top rim of the recycled tin can.

Use the same basic design to complete a recycled tin can craft for a Halloween black cat treat cup. Skip the step for the bat's wings. Instead, make two larger triangle shaped ears. Paint or color the paper ears black. Then include two smaller triangles in red or pink on the inside of each black triangle. Glue the two pieces together and glue the finished black cat ears to the to rim of the recycled tin can craft. Next, use recycled craft materials to finish the Halloween black cat's features. Use pipe cleaners for whiskers to stick out beyond the recycled tin can. Add googley eyes or paint with green and yellow craft pens.

Once the Halloween treat cups have dried, fill them with packaged Halloween candy. Pass out these eco-friendly crafts during Halloween trick or treating or as favors during Halloween parties.
