Valentine's Day Crafts Made with Magazine Pages

You can subscribe to digital magazines and visit the websites of your favorite publications as a green alternative to purchasing paper magazines. Sometimes, though, it is nice to curl up on the sofa and flip through the pages of your favorite monthly. Fortunately, there are ways to use the pages once you have read them. Here are some recycled Valentine's Day decoration ideas you can make using magazine and catalog pages.

Snowflake Heart Decoration

Cut a heart out of a sheet of white construction or printer paper (this is a great way to use the backsides of printed pages that do not have identifying information on them). Fold up the heart and snip small shapes out if it as you would a paper snowflake. You can find detailed instructions on doing so here if you are not familiar with these.

Find a magazine page that is mostly red or pink and tear it out. Trace the heart shape onto the page and cut it out. Glue the magazine page onto the back of the lacy white heart. Make a bunch of these recycled Valentine's Day decorations and hang them in windows or from strings taped to the ceiling.

Decorative Valentine's Day Cards

You can also use this recycled Valentine's Day decoration idea to make lovely Valentine's Day card. Fold a piece of paper in half to create a card. Cut heart shapes or a snowflake heart decoration out of the cover of the card. Glue a magazine page in reds and pinks onto the back of the cover and write your sentiments on the inside of the card.

Valentine's Day Garland

Another recycled Valentine's Day decoration you can create using old magazine pages is a garland of hearts to string over a doorway, drape across a mantle or hang anywhere else you want to add some romantic adornment.

Cut hearts in uniform shapes and sizes from as many red, white and pink magazine pages as you can find. If you have a heart-shaped cookie cutter, use it as a template to trace the shapes onto the pages and cut out several at once to save time. You should be able to cut three or four hearts out of each magazine page.

You can string the garland together in a few ways. You can punch holes in the right and left side of the center of each heart and use yarn or ribbon to tie the shapes together. If you are handy with a sewing machine, you can quickly stitch them in a long strand. You can even tape or glue the hearts together if you choose.

The next time you finish a magazine, consider ways that you might be able to reuse it such as these recycled Valentine's Day decorations. For another idea, check out Make a Recycled Magazine Bowl.
