Recycled Witch Cauldrons for Eco-Friendly Halloween Crafts
Perfects for Halloween Parties and Trick or Treats
Begin by coating each Styrofoam bowl in a solid coating of black paint. Do not spray paint the bowls. What seems like a time saving technique will actually end up costing you more time, as spray paint dissolves Styrofoam. Also, avoiding the fumes of spray paint keeps this eco-friendly craft as green as possible. Use craft paints like acrylics. Choose paints with a glossy finish if you want the recycled witch cauldrons to be shiny. Be sure to paint the Halloween craft bowls well both inside and out.
Next, take three wooden beads, about ½ inch long, or leftover plastic bottle caps, and coat them in black paint. When both the bowls and beads have dried, glue three to the bottom of each black Styrofoam bowl. These will serve as legs for the witch cauldrons and make them look more cauldron-like. You can skip this step if you do not have the materials, but it really does help the craft look more realistic.
Finally, take a black pipe cleaner or chenille straw to make a handle for the recycled craft witch cauldrons. Make two small holes on opposite sides of the bowl rim. Thread each end of the pipe cleaner into a hole and fold around the edge to secure.
Now, fill one recycled Styrofoam craft witch cauldron with green guacamole or Halloween party dips in fun colors. Or you can fill them with any kind of Halloween party snack or treats.
For trick or treaters, use small single serving Styrofoam bowls for the eco-friendly craft. After they have all dried and are assembled, fill them with pre-packaged Halloween candy. (Remember to only give home-made goodies to close friends and families so unknown neighborhood children can trick or treat safely.) Place each small witch cauldron on a piece of green plastic wrap, pull the wrap up around them and secure with a rubber band or ribbon.
