So many of us throw our glass jars in the rubbish or the recycling, but you can use these jars to solve many storage problems and create unique and elegant looks around the home!
Obviously, if you are having them around the house, just plain, ordinary glass jars are a bit dull, but you can create a multitude of different looks for next to nothing, or better still, for nothing!
Ribbon:
You can use paper or fabric ribbon to cover a glass jar and make it look great, fabric ribbon is fantastic, but paper ribbon is wipe clean and waterproof, so if you are putting items that might stain or get wet (big jars or bottles can make great vases!) then I recommend the paper ribbon.
You will need:
A glass Jar
Ribbon
Glue
Scissors
Step 1: Thoroughly wash the jar and remove the label, if you have trouble removing the sticky residue, use a little hairspray and a damp cloth (this also works for sticky marks on windows!)
Allow to dry.
Step 2: Wrap the lengths of ribbon around the jar to see how long they will need to be, cut them, making sure you leave only a slight overlap. Stick one end to the jar and warp it right around the jar and stick the ends together.
Repeat this as many times as necessary, you can cover the jar completely or leave a slight gap.
Step 3: For added security, you can coat the jar in a gloss, even a clear nail polish remover would help.
Fill with flowers, or bits and bobs, or whatever you like!
Alternatively, you can use acrylic paints or even any old nail polish you might have lying around the house!

Post a CommentI've wrapped ribbon on jars several times. In fact, I have a cabinet full of beautiful glass jars that I use for vases.
I never knew hair spray & a damp cloth could remove sticky residue. Great tip!
This is a very good idea, I'm behind on my reading!
I try to never throw out glass jars of any kind, they are great for storing things in and are great for soups, left over sauce and other food items.
Great idea for a fun craft that recycles at the same time!
I am blown away by your creative ideas. :)
Very cool idea!
